Scharmbeck autumn market: Bull guessing game delights young and old!
In Osterholz-Scharmbeck, the Scharmbeck autumn market was celebrated with great enthusiasm from September 26th to 30th, 2023. As the 276th edition of the traditional livestock market, which can trace its roots back to 1748, the market attracts numerous visitors year after year. Particularly pleasing for young and old: children also have to prove themselves in the famous guessing game about the weight of the Scharmbeck bull. It is a development that has been very well received since 2016.
This year, the 11-month-old Charolais bull Mike, weighing 469 kg, put the participants' estimation skills to the test. Particularly exciting: three lucky people were able to correctly guess Mike's weight and were delighted with great prizes. This included a women's eBike worth 1,100 euros, which was donated by Marktkauf. Hanne Schlösser was delighted to receive a shopping voucher for 500 euros from the Meyerhoff furniture store, while Guido Röpe was also included in the winners with a city voucher worth 300 euros from Volksbank eG.
The little winners
It wasn't just the adults who had fun with the guessing game: a total of around 800 children took part in the guessing game about the weight of the little calf Lui. Nine particularly talented children aged four to eight correctly estimated Lui's weight, which was set at 61 kg, and were rewarded for their achievements with a 100 euro voucher each from the Fleischer department store. Their estimates ranged from 4 to 80 kilograms – a huge range!
The award ceremony was hosted by Mayor Torsten Rohde, who was visibly pleased with the large turnout and the smiling faces of the young winners. Not only was it played and appreciated, but a strong sense of community was also celebrated.
