Companies in Wolfenbüttel: Climate balance workshop for the future!
An important workshop entitled “Creating a climate balance” took place in Wolfenbüttel on September 26, 2025. The Wolfenbüttel District Economic Development GmbH, the Regional Energy Agency (REA) and experienced energy consultants supported companies in developing a better understanding of their CO₂ balance. The event was a real hit and offered participants a practical phase in which they could create their individual climate balance with support. Cremlingen Online reports that the speakers brought a wide range of specialist knowledge: Aiko Müller from ReNOB, Dirk and Alexandra Düe from BraWo GEConsulting as well as Stefan Schmidt-Kolberg from skando energie and Rosa Shahnazari from AGIMUS GmbH were there to give valuable tips.
The focus on the carbon footprint is not only important for the climate, but also for the economic future of companies. A solid climate balance is increasingly seen as the basis for sustainable action. This is particularly true in times when banks and insurance companies incorporate sustainability aspects into their assessments. Large companies could face higher loan interest rates and insurance premiums if they have a poor sustainability rating. The participants' feedback shows that improved knowledge of their own numbers leads to targeted measures for cost savings and competitiveness.
Making companies fit for the future
The workshop was part of the larger “Energy Transition” project, funded by the Zukunftsfonds Asse Foundation. The aim of this project is to make the regional economy fit for future challenges. The organizers call on companies to actively reduce their energy consumption in order to reduce operating costs and strengthen their own performance and competitiveness.
In view of the latest climate balance analysis by Agora Energiewende and the current WWF report on the 2024 climate balance, it is clear that there is a great need for action. The WWF highlights that the majority of sectors in Germany were unable to achieve a sustainable improvement in their climate footprint last year. Despite small progress, the building and transport sectors in particular have major challenges to overcome. Only the electricity sector was able to make positive progress thanks to the expansion of renewable energies and the decline in coal-fired power generation.
Sustainability: A need of the hour
Sustainability, environmental protection and energy efficiency are on the agenda for many companies. The increasing demands of social responsibility and legal requirements, such as the EU taxonomy and CSRD, cannot be overlooked. TÜV NORD offers numerous services to support companies in the transition to a sustainable economy. This includes, among other things, CO₂ accounting and the development of decarbonization strategies.
In view of the threat of billions of euros in EU fines for the building sector and transport due to continued standstill, it is urgently necessary to take clear steps towards sustainability. Companies are required to address the issue in order to ensure long-term success and competitiveness. This is not only the need of the hour, but also an opportunity to set new standards in your own business area.
