Volkswagen invites: 1,700 employees to the Health Care Run on June 21st!

Volkswagen is sending a strong message for the health of its employees. On June 21st, the Wolfsburg plant invites you to the Health Care Run, an event that is constantly growing in popularity. Around 1,700 employees have already registered, and to encourage even more participants, a final registration window will be open for 24 hours. This event is now taking place for the third time and offers running distances of five and ten kilometers as well as a special kids run for the little ones.

“We are pleased that the return of large events is finally possible again after three difficult years due to Covid,” explains Dr. Lars Neighbour, Head of Volkswagen Group Health Care and Occupational Safety. The event started in mid-May in Bratislava, where around 500 Volkswagen employees who, for example, drove the Touareg and the up! produce, became active. A global number of up to 20,000 participants is expected, underlining the importance of this initiative.

Full schedule and exciting activities

The registration system for the race opened on June 12th at 3 p.m. and closes on June 13th at 3 p.m. On the day of the run, participants can look forward to a lively supporting program that begins at 10 a.m. with a stage program. The kids run starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by the main runs from 11 a.m. There's a lot on offer for the whole family: from a DJ to VW currywurst to bouncy castles - there's something for everyone. Arne Meiswinkel, Volkswagen's Chief Human Resources Officer, will take over the patronage and take part himself.

Another exciting aspect of this event is the combination of sport and social commitment. Volkswagen calculates a donation depending on the total distance traveled by employees. These donations go to the “a chance to play” project, which works for disadvantaged children and young people, particularly in the areas of violence prevention and learning and educational opportunities. This commitment has existed for over 20 years and is carried out in collaboration with local partners and the international children's aid organization Terre des hommes.

International engagement and health promotion

The running event also shows how Volkswagen implements its health and safety policy. The runs usually take place on company premises, which is found to be particularly motivating. The series will continue at other locations within the company until the end of June, with a final round in Anchieta, Brazil, where the Polo is produced for the South American market. In Wolfsburg on June 17th, employees will also have the opportunity to choose between 3,300 and 5,800 meters and test their fitness.

Volkswagen's Health Care Run not only offers the chance to be active about your own health, but also supports a good cause. It could be said: exercise is good - and at the same time it does something good for your neighbor. It will be exciting to see how the event on June 21st performs.
