New Mayor Déus: A breath of fresh air for Bonn!
On November 3, 2025, Guido Déus will have his first day at work as the new mayor of Bonn and will immediately show that he has an ear for the concerns of the people of Bonn. Right at the beginning of his taking office, the program included getting to know the various departments of the city administration. He was interviewed by a team from WDR Local Time in the Old Town Hall, where he emphasized that the well-being of the city was important to him and that he wanted to be there for all citizens. It's clear that tackling the matter is harder than being well-informed, and he seems to have that under control.
In the first part of his day, the new mayor planned a visit to the staff council in the town hall. This was followed by a tour during which he was able to get to know many important faces from the mayor's office, the co-head of the department Christian Siegberg, the city planning office and the office for press, protocol and public relations. “Good communication is the basis for everything,” emphasized Déus and plans to personally welcome other employees at a staff meeting on Wednesday.
Carnival and culture in Bonn
A special meeting was scheduled for the afternoon. Déus received Marlies Stockhorst, the President of the Bonn Carnival Festival Committee. In the Old Town Hall she handed him the camel calendar with the carnival dates for the coming session. A highlight will be the “200 Years of Bonn Carnival” anniversary, which will be supported by the city with 48,500 euros. During the conversation, both were visibly excited about the upcoming festive days and what they mean for Bonn.
But it's not just the carnival that's the focus. Cultural life is also very important. The event “Käpt’n Book – Rhenish Reading Festival for Children and Young Adults” will take place from November 2nd to 16th, organized by the Cultural Office of the City of Bonn. This year the motto is “reading fun for everyone” and over 550 free events are waiting for young and old readers. Well-known children's and young adult authors such as Isabel Abedi and Colin Hadler will be there and will delight readers with interactive readings, music, theater and many other offerings. According to Bonnnet, the program can already be viewed online.
Look into the week
On November 13, 2025, Guido Déus will be officially sworn into the Council. This meeting in the council chamber of the town hall will be broadcast live - a great opportunity to see how the new mayor is adapting to his office. What he wants to achieve in his first week remains exciting. But one thing is certain: Bonn has a mayor who is prepared to advocate for the interests of his city and its citizens.
The coming weeks promise a lot of action and commitment. We can't wait to see how Guido Déus performs as the new mayor in the next few months and what progress Bonn can make under his leadership.
