Ice Saints' Settlement celebrates cohesion: a celebration for all generations!

On June 18, 2025, a festive tenants' party was celebrated in Vonovia's Ice Saints' Settlement, which not only offered an opportunity to celebrate, but also served as a platform for exchange between neighbors. A colorful program was planned that focused not only on the little ones, but also on the seniors. The painting table for the children invited creative development, while the Huckarde senior citizens' office offered an interesting workshop on making herbal salts. After all, it is important to bring all generations together instead of keeping them separated, which was a central goal of the festival. We in Dortmund reports that Dirk Wischnewski found the exchange between the tenants and Vonovia employees to be extremely positive.

This type of event is part of a broader initiative aimed at creating meeting spaces. As part of a research project, neighborhood-related strategies and approaches are being examined in order to promote cross-group contacts. Particular attention is paid to (semi-)public meeting facilities such as neighborhood houses and district centers. The study aims to characterize approaches to encounters in social neighborhood development and to evaluate how they can contribute to local coexistence vhw highlights.

Collegial collaboration and local partners

Collaboration with local partners was also very important in the Ice Saints Settlement. The women's center's playmobile offered the youngest visitors opportunities for exercise. The Caritas Energy Saving Service provided information about energy saving tips, while Eva Schellewald gave inspiring suggestions for mindfulness. The “Local Welcome” association provided the sweet treat with delicious cotton candy. Culinary delicacies such as currywurst, pasta and potato salad rounded off the diverse offering and helped the neighbors get into conversation with each other.

Nora Woker, who helped organize the event, emphasized how important cohesion is in the neighborhood. She emphasized that cooperation with local partners forms the basis for many interesting projects. The events such as the tenant festival are a direct implementation of the findings of the above-mentioned research project. Neighborhood research shows that such approaches to encounters not only contribute to strengthening social cohesion, but can also break down existing boundaries.

In summary, the tenant festival in the Eisheilensiedlung impressively shows how important it is to create spaces for encounters. The event's diverse offerings promoted exchange and created connections between people of all ages. A successful example of how vibrant neighborhoods live and thrive.
