A musical highlight will be offered in the Lüdenscheid Church of the Redeemer on Saturday, June 21st. Between 11:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. all music lovers are invited to experience church music in the “Music at Market Time” series. The cantor and church musician Annika Eisenberg, who comes from Hüsten, will provide the musical accompaniment. But the musical offerings don’t end there. A week later, on Sunday, June 29th, the Heinrich Schütz Kantorei will sing again in the service. From 10:30 a.m., the congregation will be thrilled by the long-time leadership of choir director Ben Köster as part of the service. This is a special day as it will be the last time he will lead the choir under his direction. After the service, visitors are cordially invited to stay for a church coffee in the Church of the Redeemer. A “Spiritual Lunchtime Concert” is also on the program at 12.15 p.m., in which the choir will present a selection of songs from the early baroque to modern times.
Celebrations and anniversaries
The Church of the Redeemer recently celebrated an important anniversary: this wonderful church has already existed for 950 years! The festival weekend attracted numerous visitors and offered a colorful range of events. The festival kicked off on Friday with a youth disco, organized by a dedicated team of young people aged 14 to 17. The family festival took place on Saturday, but received a rather muted response, especially from families with children. On Sunday, a festive service and reception concluded the celebrations. The sermon by Ulf Schlüter, the theological vice-president of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, had the topic of planning in construction and in life. The sermon text from the Book of Kings, which discussed the building of the first temple in Jerusalem, formed a strong foundation for the inspiring ideas that shaped the service. Two collections at the exit benefited both the tower renovation and “Bread for the World”. The event was musically accompanied by the Heinrich Schütz Kantorei as well as the instrumental consort and other soloists.
