Hamilton delights home fans with fastest time at Silverstone!

On Friday, July 4, 2025, the British Grand Prix got off to a promising start in Silverstone. Experienced racing driver Lewis Hamilton, now 40, caused excitement among the home fans when he set the fastest time in the first practice session. He has often made spectators' hearts beat faster in the past, as Hamilton is the most successful driver in this race with a total of nine victories at Silverstone. This year, however, there is an interesting twist: Hamilton is driving for Ferrari for the first time after moving from Mercedes, and his fans are hoping for the Scuderia's first podium finish of the season.

In the first training session, the only German regular driver, Nico Hülkenberg, had to watch as Paul Aron, a short-term replacement driver from Alpine, took his place and finished 17th. Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc finished fourth, while McLaren's Lando Norris put in a strong performance to take second place and teammate Oscar Piastri secured third place. Piastri leads the overall standings and has a 15-point lead over Norris, while world champion Max Verstappen only managed a disappointing tenth place, leaving him 61 points behind the leader.

The stagnant dream of the podium

Ferrari, the only one of the big four teams yet to win this season, has made some progress recently, particularly after the debut of an improved surface for the SF-25 in Austria. Hamilton's wait for a podium finish has now stretched to a career-high 13 races. Nevertheless, he showed a positive development at the last race in Austria when he took fourth place and thus gained hope of returning to the top group. However, over the last eleven years, Hamilton has consistently finished on the podium at Silverstone - an impressive streak that he now wants to defend.

The signs for the upcoming Grand Prix are promising and the competition is expected to be particularly strong. McLaren has enjoyed victories in recent races, while Hamilton and Ferrari hope to continue the performance trend. Hamilton is determined to extend his unique podium record after taking his ninth win at Silverstone last season, taking his total podium total to 12.

Qualifying and race strategies

Hamilton's qualifying statistics this season show a varied performance. In Australia he narrowly missed the podium by qualifying 0.090 seconds slower than Leclerc. What was annoying for him was that he was nine seconds behind in the race, which makes it clear that he still needs to work on his racing speed. The coming days of the British Grand Prix promise exciting duels and possibly surprising twists.

All of this, coupled with the usual anniversary feeling and the passionate support of the home fans, will certainly contribute to a memorable racing weekend at Silverstone.
