Kyiv in a state of emergency: massive night attacks by Russia!

On the night of July 10, 2025, the Ukrainian capital Kiev was again the target of massive attacks by the Russian army. Countless explosions echoed through the city as the Ukrainian air force warned of the approach of dozens of combat drones and missiles. Heavy anti-aircraft fire could be heard in the city center, which startled the alarmed citizens. At least two people were injured in the overnight events, while authorities reported an air alert being raised in more than half the country. According to Radio Euskirchen, a dozen explosions were registered during this wave of attacks and falling drone debris caused fires in several parts of the city.

The situation in Ukraine remains tense, as this is by no means an isolated case. The Russian combat drones attack various targets in the country every day, with the attacks mostly taking place in the dark. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported active fighting on the eastern bank of the Dnipro and warned the population of further drone attacks on Kiev and other vulnerable regions, including Poltava, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad and Zhytomyr. Stuttgarter Nachrichten calls this part of Russia's ongoing strategic offensive that has been putting Ukraine under pressure for over three years.

Massive attacks with devastating consequences

The situation has escalated, particularly in the last few days. On Wednesday night, Russia carried out massive airstrikes on Ukraine, with the Russian Air Force adding 477 drones and 60 missiles - the highest number of operations since the start of the war. Ukrainian military noted that a majority of the attacks were successfully diverted or neutralized. Nevertheless, civilian objects were also hit. A child was also injured in the town of Smila in the Cherkassy region after a residential building was hit. The reverberating noise of the explosions could be clearly heard in Kyiv. In other cities such as Zaporizhzhia, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, the population also survived alarming operations. This is reported by ZDF today.

Amid these attacks, the Ukrainian Air Force has paid a heavy price: an F-16 fighter jet pilot born in 1993 lost his life after his plane was hit. Despite his heroic efforts to shoot down seven enemy targets, he was unable to catapult himself in time. Such tragedies underscore the serious threat Ukraine faces on a daily basis.

A call for increased support

Against the background of this threatening situation, pressure is growing on Ukraine's Western allies to strengthen their air defense systems. As Russia's attacks intensify, the need for support is more urgent than ever. The government in Kyiv is concerned about the safety of its citizens and takes the threat of these systematic attacks very seriously. The grip of the Russian invasion has already lasted over three years, and the Ukrainian people continue to fight courageously for their freedom and sovereignty. It remains to be seen how the international community will react to this escalation.
