Dramatic derby: ASV Hamm starts the 3rd league with 2000 fans!

The anticipation is palpable in Hamm, because on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, it will finally be about points again for ASV Hamm-Westfalen. In the first game of 3rd league A long-awaited derby against Ahlener SG awaits the team. For ASV fans, the arena in Werries is the place where they will cheer on their teams. Over 2,000 tickets have already been sold in advance and almost half of those who bought them have opted for a season ticket. This shows that the support of the supporters is strong, which ASV captain Fabian Huesmann finds extremely positive.

A return to old rivalries: the last direct competition between the two clubs took place in March 2009. Since then, the paths of Ahlener SG and ASV have taken different paths - after returning to the 3rd league in 2016, Ahlener spent four years in the fourth division, while ASV played in the 2nd Bundesliga before being relegated to the 3rd league northwest.

A new wind in the team

The ASV is facing a major upheaval. Nine new additions and 13 departures characterize the new squad, which is expected to focus on tough competition. Coach Jörn-Uwe Lommel emphasizes that the valuable insights from the test matches must now be implemented. What is important is the return of the experienced Lars Gudat, who is planned as a backup for Andreas Bornemann.

There are many fresh faces in the squad, including Marcos Colodetii and Ivan Budalic in goal and Fabian Huesmann, Ole Machner and Nils Greilich (second game SC DHfK Leipzig) in the wing positions. The backcourt formation is led by Niklas Gautzsch and Gasper Horvat. Huesmann himself, who has been captain since 2012, observes that the team has to develop automatisms in order to be successful in the new round. “We want to repay the fans’ trust,” he explains with conviction.

The look into the future

The coming season in the 3rd league promises excitement, as the first two teams in each season qualify for the promotion round, from which two promoted teams emerge. At the same time, the last three finishers have to prepare for the bitter transition to the regional league. It will be important for ASV and Ahlener SG to score points right from the start.

Both clubs have also decided to work together in the youth sector and appear as JSG Westfalen. This shows that we also focus on joint projects outside the playing field. Ahlen's coach Jakob Schwabe, who was a player when the two clubs merged, wants to establish the SG in the upper midfield of the league.

Kick-off for the opening game on Sunday is at 5 p.m. Fans can look forward to seeing what their teams have to offer in the new season. An exciting game is expected and in Hamm the focus is clearly on the goal of securing the two points.
