Hamm triumphs: Two schools awarded excellence in international education!
Great joy for two schools in Hamm: On October 8, 2025, the Alfred Delp School and the Talschule were awarded the title “Schools for International School Development” by the Arnsberg district government. District President Heinrich Böckelühr ceremoniously presented the certificates, honoring the schools' commitment to international education. A total of 18 schools from the region were honored in this context, which underlines the importance of individual and joint efforts to achieve the highest level of education.
This award is part of the ambitious “EFFORT-A” project, which will run for seven years and is funded by the European Union as part of the Erasmus+ program. The aim of the project is to enable teacher training in other European countries, including school visits, courses or joint projects. As NRW School Ministry notes, an impressive number of 55 schools from the government district are currently taking part in the project - it is the largest of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Diverse focuses and goals
The project focuses on several important areas. Education for sustainable development, digital transformation, heterogeneity and democratic development play a central role. The focus of 2024 will also be on democracy education and awareness of democratic values and human rights. So far, over 295 mobilities have been recorded to other European countries, and around 450 further mobilities are planned by 2027. These include further training courses, internships and visits from experts who support the teachers on site.
The results of the activities so far are already diverse: creative ideas are emerging in schools such as simulation games on the European Union, exciting exchange projects with groups of students from other countries and joint learning using digital media. Such initiatives are not only beneficial for the students, but also strengthen the school's overall development.
A network for the future
Another important concern of EFFORT-A is the institutionalization of networks and the introduction of a certificate for international school development. The first networking event is scheduled for March 12, 2024 in Attendorn, specifically with a focus on the European elections. Over 80 teachers have already expressed their interest. Another network meeting is planned for November 12, 2024 in Dortmund, which is open to all interested schools.
These exciting developments show that there is a great commitment to international education projects at schools not only in Hamm but throughout the region. This is an important signal for the future – for our children, for our schools and for a shared European education that promotes values such as democracy and diversity.
