Youth convention in Hamm: 200 votes for a peaceful Europe!
On October 1, 2025, over 200 young people gathered in the auditorium of the Sophie Scholl Comprehensive School in Hamm-Bockum-Hövel for the second youth convention of the Westphalian Peace Conference. The aim of the event was to discuss the topic of peaceful coexistence in Europe in lively discussions. The young people had the opportunity to ask questions directly to experts and express their concerns. As the Lip wave reports, topics such as extremism, European cooperation and the role of young people in peacekeeping were at the center of the discussions.
The guests at the event included prominent personalities, including the State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia, Gonca Türkeli-Dehnert, as well as Dr. Andreas Hollstein, Polonia representative for the state. Mareike Boccola, owner of Hauschild GmbH & Co. KG, and Julius Dittmann, managing director of Titus GmbH, were also present. The event was made lively through lectures and interactive voting by the participants.
International understanding and intercultural exchange
Promoting international understanding plays an important role in the discussion about a peaceful Europe. Like on the platform EUNIC can be read, the focus is on profound communication between different population groups and cultures. Particular attention is paid to reducing prejudices and borders between European states. The creation of dialogue spaces and the promotion of intercultural learning are central goals in order to enable better understanding between different cultures.
The initiative aims to create a breeding ground for cultural growth in Europe and emphasizes the importance of historical heritage and cultural diversity. A catalyst for this exchange is the position of EU cultural ambassador, which is intended to strengthen cultural relations within Europe.
Youth projects for peace and solidarity
The challenges Europe is currently facing are diverse. The Ukraine conflict in particular has heightened awareness of the need for peace building and peacekeeping. Facilities like that ICJA are actively committed to peaceful communication across borders. The organization conducts training and youth meetings that cover topics such as non-violent communication and social inclusion.
An example of this is the “Young Activists for Peace and Sustainable Future” project, which brings together young people from different countries to develop skills for a more peaceful and sustainable future. The contributions of migrant communities to the UN sustainability goals are also discussed, which shows that solidarity and peaceful coexistence can also promote a sustainable lifestyle.
The ideas and initiatives discussed at the Youth Convention in Hamm reflect the desire to promote a united and peaceful Europe. The young people are aware of their responsibility and actively strive to raise their voices for peace and togetherness.
