Summer serenade in Herne: melodies under the starry sky!
A mild summer evening, the sound of music in the air and around 60 enthusiastic listeners - this is how the summer serenade of the trombone choir of the CVJM Herne presented itself on the city terrace in Sodingen on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025. At the event, which began at 7:30 p.m. and lasted about 45 minutes, visitors were entertained by around 20 talented wind players with a varied program that included both sacred and secular pieces. Stefan Wilhelm not only took over the musical direction, but also moderated the evening.
The program consisted of a total of 14 pieces, including some emotional highlights such as “Imagine” (Lennon/McCartney), “Über den Wolken” by Reinhard Mey and “You Raise Me Up”. The eclectic musical style included festive chorale pieces as well as upbeat pop songs that kept the audience entertained for an hour and a half. The atmosphere of the concert evening was shaped by the beginning of dusk and the emotional power of the music. The joint performance of the evening song “The moon has risen” and the coveted encore “Himmelweit”, which invited the listeners to sing along and clap along, were particularly heartwarming.
An event for the senses
The approximately 60 visitors not only had the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the trombone choir, but also to experience the beautiful surroundings of the city terrace. In ideal weather, in the fresh evening air, the concert became a community experience. The end of the event at 8:15 p.m. left enough time for discussions, feedback and shared ice cream for some of the participants, which made the encounters that evening even more unforgettable. The participants agreed: This summer serenade will be remembered for the music and the great atmosphere.
The event took place outdoors and, despite the approaching dusk, guests experienced an unforgettable evening of music that came from the heart. A clear announcement: If it rained, the serenade would be canceled, but the weather held and the open-air event could take place undisturbed.
A look at upcoming events
It's not just the summer serenade in Herne that offers music lovers a feast for the senses. The Schlossfestspiele in Ludwigsburg have also announced that they will continue the tradition of outdoor concerts. This shady setting, between the fountain and the town church, becomes the perfect stage for a mix of pop, folk and indie bands, as well as a jazz combo. The events are also free and open to all music enthusiasts - in addition to the planned outdoor concerts, visitors can also look forward to intimate chamber music formations in the castle park.
It turns out that music not only brings people together, but also evokes the joys of shared experience. Whether on the city terrace in Herne or the castle festival in Ludwigsburg, one thing remains certain: the magic of music can be felt everywhere.
