Klever's young footballers are fighting for promotion to the Lower Rhine League!
On Sunday, June 19, 2025, all eyes will be on the A-Juniors of 1. FC Kleve, who will face VfB Homberg at 11 a.m. The duel is very important for both teams, as four young teams from the Kleve/Geldern football district are fighting for the coveted ticket to the Lower Rhine League. VfB Homberg finished last season in a solid second place in the Grenzlandliga, leaving 1. FC Kleve four points behind. Kleve had to admit defeat in the two championship duels so far, which only increases the pressure before the next game.
But it's not just the A-Juniors that are in focus. Detlev Remmers, who heads the youth department at 1. FC Kleve, reports on the positive developments within the clubs. Thanks to a dedicated team of trainers who always stayed on the ball during the difficult Corona pandemic, the youth department was able to record more than 40 new registrations. This is also reflected in the table positions of the older junior teams. The U19 and U15 are currently playing in the Lower Rhine League, while the U17 and U14 are active in the special league. “Training is going well and we are happy with how the season has gone so far,” said Remmers.
The challenges in the borderland league
The U17, which competes in the Grenzlandliga, has been strong so far and leads the table with three wins and two defeats. Nevertheless, the pressure in this league is enormous, as only the league leader in the respective district can get a ticket to the Lower Rhine League qualification. Remmers emphasizes that the A-youth definitely want to achieve a qualification place for the coming season. However, in their last game against FC Kray there was a bitter defeat with 0:7, which makes the situation even trickier.
The C-Youth (U15), however, impressively won the district derby against SV Straelen 3-0 and is in third place in the table. “The players are motivated and training is well attended,” said the coaching team. This positive news from the youth department leaves room for optimism. While the players have a break until Monday to concentrate on school, there are five training sessions in the second week of the holiday, including innovative concepts such as aqua jogging and aqua cycling to improve endurance.
Keep an eye on the next games
After the match against Homberg, 1. FC Kleve will host Mülheimer FC a week later. There is great hope for a successful game, and the last game against FC Kray is just around the corner. The next few weeks could be crucial for the teams' future, and everyone involved is excited to see what happens next. The ambitious goals of the youth department of 1. FC Kleve are clear: they want to play in the Lower Rhine League in the future and develop further.
