Last weekend the athletes of... TSV Bayer 04 won big at the North Rhine Championships for the U14 and U18 age groups in Krefeld. The young talents successfully completed the two days of competition with an impressive medal tally of 5 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals.
The male U18s in particular were in brilliant form. Jelvis Frempong sprinted over the 100 meters in 11.20 seconds and thus secured the bronze medal. His teammate Nikolas Kautz set a personal best time of 10.87 seconds in the intermediate run, but did not make it to the final. Florian Bausdorf impressed the spectators with a strong 400-meter race and took third place in 51.19 seconds - a result that earned him qualification for the U18 DM.
Team top performances
The male U18 relay team caused a sensation in their first appearance: in a time of 41.43 seconds, they not only won the race, but also set a new LVN record and left the competition behind by almost two seconds. For TSV Bayer 04, this is another step towards the German U18 championship title, which they won last year in 41.46 seconds.
The athletes’ performances did not go unnoticed. Youth sprint coach Andreas Gentz was satisfied with the result and emphasized how many personal bests were achieved. Particularly noteworthy are Ian Kehder's successes in the javelin throw, where he won the gold medal with 56.34 meters and also won silver in the shot put and bronze in the discus throw. His teammates Gianluca Wessendorf and Yoan Körber also achieved top placings: Wessendorf came second in the javelin throw and Körber third in the high jump with 1.79 meters.

The North Rhine Championships took place in the well-prepared Covestro sports park in Krefeld-Uerdingen, thanks to the support of SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen. The event was carried out efficiently through the use of electronic distance measurements in the throwing disciplines and once again showed how the number of participants and performances have increased significantly compared to previous years. LV North Rhine draws a consistently positive conclusion and recognizes the progress made by the U14 athletes as seen in the LVN Talent Team's efforts.
With these outstanding performances, the TSV Bayer 04 athletes can look forward to the upcoming competitions with confidence. Good luck for the challenges ahead!
