Police flash 117 traffic offenders in Lüdenscheid during Speedweek!

The holiday season is coming to an end, and things are getting serious again for drivers in Lüdenscheid and the surrounding area. With an intensive control campaign, the police recently impressively highlighted the importance of road safety. During the Roadpol Speed Week, numerous drivers were put to the test in Lüdenscheid. In just one day, 117 traffic offenders were discovered and asked to pay, reported come-on.de.

The European initiative behind this control is coordinated by the European Roads Policing Network. Its central goal is to reduce serious and fatal traffic accidents on Europe's roads. In addition to this campaign, the police are also carrying out extensive checks in other cities such as Werdohl and Neuenrade. 18 of a total of over 500 vehicles were classified as too fast. But the officers didn't just find speeding: violations such as using a cell phone while driving, unauthorized overtaking and driving without a license were also punished. One particularly serious case led to the arrest of a vehicle driver based on an existing arrest warrant.

Was it just the drivers who were the focus of the police? With nieces! Cyclists and e-scooter drivers in the pedestrian zone also went unnoticed and were warned. According to police spokesman Lukas Borowski, it is essential to talk to road users and make them aware of the dangers in road traffic.

Planned road safety actions

The ROADPOL initiative has published a comprehensive calendar of pan-European road safety operations for 2025, aimed at reducing road deaths and injuries. The focus is particularly on speeding, the requirement to wear a seat belt, inability to drive and distractions while driving. These measures are carried out in different periods:

  • Truck & Bus Operations: 17.-23. Februar, 5.-11. Mai, 17.-23. November
  • Operation Seatbelt: 10.-16. März
  • Operation Speed: 7.-13. April, 4.-10. August
  • Operation Alcohol & Drugs: 16.-22. Juni, 15.-21. Dezember
  • Operation Focus on the Road: 6.-12. Oktober
  • Operation Safe Holiday: Juli und August

This initiative aims to create a deterrent effect and raise awareness of the challenges in road transport, such as roadpol.eu communicates. Joint efforts and cooperation with various law enforcement agencies support these goals and are intended to ensure greater safety on the roads.

Strategies for more security

ROADPOL, as an international network of traffic police, has set itself the goal of reducing the number of traffic accidents and victims in Europe. With the slogan “Cross borders to save lives!” The organization is an important part of the effort to make the roads safer. The headquarters in London coordinates national traffic enforcement actions and promotes the exchange of best practices.

The issue of road safety is more relevant than ever, not only for authorities, but also for us road users. The MK District Police Department plans to maintain pressure on traffic offenders to make the roads safer. And while in Lüdenscheid the traffic chaos is to be reduced by the new Rahmede viaduct, in Austria people may find themselves in the dark when it comes to traffic education and controls. So it seems like the road to road safety is long and difficult, but with the right measures and the support of everyone involved, the number of accidents can hopefully be reduced.
