Free weighing for motorhomes in Mettmann: Check weight now!

Summertime is just around the corner and many Cologne residents are packing their motorhomes for their next camping trip. But before you get started, you should take the opportunity to have your vehicle weighed. Next Saturday, July 5th, the Mettmann police invite you to a free weighing event in the district police authority parking lot at Adalbert-Bach-Platz 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The aim of this campaign is to educate drivers about the importance of the permissible total weight of their vehicles and to avoid possible overloading.

It is a common misconception among campers that they have more control over the permitted load of their vehicle than is actually the case. The maximum permitted payload is often exceeded more quickly than you think. Things like filled water tanks, gas bottles and luggage can be responsible. To ensure that this does not lead to problems on the streets, the police have launched this educational campaign. Overcharging will not be punished during the event, which takes the pressure off the participants. However, you should always have your valid vehicle registration document with you.

Simple process and additional tips

The weighing action takes place in two time windows: vehicles with an even number on their license plate can come from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., while vehicles with an odd number on their license plate can come from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. We ask that you arrive at the appropriate time and keep the turns clear for emergency routes. In the past, similar events have generated high visitor numbers and positive feedback. Once again, traffic accident and crime prevention experts will be present to give participants tips on securing loads and traveling safely.

Of course, there are other aspects to consider when camping. Many campers who took their driving test years ago are no longer aware of all the regulations. For example, mobile homes with seasonal license plates may not be parked on the street outside of usage periods and must overwinter on private property. The speed limits must also be observed: in towns and cities the speed limit is 50 km/h, while mobile homes up to 3.5 tonnes are allowed to drive on country roads at 100 km/h and on motorways without any restrictions.

Off on vacation!

Special rules apply to trailers: Drivers who tow a caravan behind their vehicle often have to expect lower speeds. And abroad there may be other traffic rules that should definitely be observed. However, one thing is certain: if you are well informed and familiarize yourself with the regulations in good time, you can enjoy your camping holiday without any worries.

So take advantage of the opportunity on July 5th and have your motorhome weighed! This means that nothing stands in the way of a relaxed trip.
