CSD Münster 2025: Optimistic about the celebrations despite threats!

Preparations are underway in Münster for Christopher Street Day (CSD), which will take place on August 30, 2025. Despite the increasing threats against queer events in Germany, the organizing team pleads for confidence. Denise Broermann, spokeswoman for the CSD Münster, is optimistic: “We are looking forward to a colorful festival, even if things are going haywire in other cities at the moment,” reports allesmuenster.de.

However, the situation in other cities such as Gelsenkirchen shows that there are serious security concerns: CSD events there have been canceled for security reasons. There are currently no specific threats to the CSD in Münster, but the organizers are in close contact with the police. “We are preparing as best we can,” adds Broermann.

Security precautions and social context

The organizers are aware of the increasing radical comments and targeted provocations on social media. What is particularly disturbing is the filming and photography of participants by people known to be anti-queer. “We take this seriously and have planned a meeting to specify the security precautions,” Broermann continues. These worrying developments coincide with reports of right-wing threats across Germany. Queer life in East Germany is also increasingly threatened by right-wing threats, such as tagesschau.de describes.

The organizers in Münster are also cooperating with the “Not a Meter to the Nazis” alliance, which demonstrated against right-wing extremist movements in spring 2024. This collaboration underlines the political dimension of the CSD, which is strongly reminiscent of the roots of the queer movement, such as the Stonewall uprising of 1969. “The CSD has an important message and we notice that people now want to stick together even more,” says Broermann.

Invitation to participate

On August 30, 2025, the decisive demo under the motto “Choose Love” will start at 11:55 a.m. at Schlossplatz Münster. The route takes in some of the city's most central streets, including Königsstrasse and Prinzalmarkt. Last year over 12,000 participants took part in the colorful festival; a success that the organizers are aiming for again this year. Helpers with the organization are always welcome: Anyone interested can contact the organization team directly at ordner_innen@csd-muenster.de.

The week of action is supported by the nationwide “5 to 12” initiative, in which over 40 demos have been registered across the country. The organizers see a clear call for solidarity and cooperation between the various social associations in Münsterland in order to create a safe and unforgettable event for everyone involved.
