12,000 euro donation: IWC Gummersbach supports social projects!

Gummersbach shows once again how strongly the commitment to social issues is anchored in the region. In a remarkable campaign, the Inner Wheel Club Gummersbach presented a proud donation of 12,000 euros to three charitable organizations. This support aims to promote social change through friendship, compassion, solidarity and caring cooperation. The club's 43 members are involved in a variety of social projects, ranging from Christmas markets to cinema projects and clothing flea markets, as oberberg-aktuell reports.

A huge chunk of the donation, namely 10,000 euros, goes to the nina+nico association, which offers support to those affected by sexual, psychological and physical violence. The association's board members were able to report 9,744 individual consultations last year - an impressive number that underlines the urgency of their work. In addition, the Gummersbach ecumenical hospice service will receive an amount of 500 euros to promote the further qualification of volunteers.

Support for children and young people

The children's grief group “Weightless” also thanked them for the support they received. One of the club's goals is to help younger people deal with difficult grief. Furthermore, the GFO Josefshaus stationary child and youth welfare service from Drolshagen is supported with 500 euros. These funds are intended for a planned holiday in Holland, as chairman Jörg Höfer explains. He emphasizes the importance of independence for adolescents aged 14 to 20, which is crucial in today's world.

Charities and welfare associations play an important role in the social system in Germany. These organizations offer necessary support services in emergencies such as illness, poverty or hunger. You could almost say that they are the backbone of humanitarian aid, as Statista explains. These valuable services are financed through donations and grants from private individuals, companies and foundations. In 2023 alone, private financial donations amounting to almost 5 billion euros were made in Germany - a sign of how social compassion is practiced.

Charity is by no means a thing of the past

What is particularly noteworthy is that the most common donation purposes in 2023 included humanitarian aid. 75.2 percent of the donations went to projects for children and young people as well as emergency and disaster relief. Organizations such as the German Red Cross (DRK), with around 2.5 million sponsors, also show how important social cohesion is. In 2023, the DRK had the highest funding expenditure in the Middle East/North Africa region, and many church institutions are also involved in welfare work.

The commitment of the Inner Wheel Club Gummersbach is a great example of how much good can come from local voluntary work. Where donations resonate and concrete help is offered, solidarity finds a home - and that is priceless, especially in challenging times.
