New express bus lines: 140 million euros for Oberberg and the surrounding area!

From 2027, the new express bus lines will roll in North Rhine-Westphalia and bring a breath of fresh air to the mobility of our regions. In particular, the idyllic places Wiehl, Much, Gummersbach and Siegen are better developed by these new connecting lines. The state government thus creates a solid offer to keep rural areas attractive. Loud Oberberg-current A total of 20 new lines will be put into operation, more than doubling the previous funding of 100 million euros.

The initial considerations led to a high investment amount of 140 million euros, which will be made available until 2032. This flood of funding particularly benefits the communities and brings the new “X-Bus” lines onto the roads. The planned connections include the express bus line from Much via Bielstein to Wiehl, a route that is generating a lot of interest.

New connections and timing

And that is by no means everything: Gummersbach and Siegen will also link to each other via Bergneustadt, Drolshagen, Olpe, Wenden and Freudenberg. The commuters who can expect a minimum frequency of at least hourly trips benefit here. Environment NRW also reports that the new lines were developed in close consultation with the municipalities in order to best meet the actual needs of citizens.

A focus is on ecology: a large part of the new bus fleet is operated with electrical and hydrogen technology. This is not only sustainable, but also an important step into the future of ecological mobility in our region. 1.6 million people are already using these fast connections and the new 600,000 are added. This promises an annual mileage of around 9.2 million bus kilometers, as the state of North Rhine -Westphalia emphasizes in a press release using your own example.

Flexible travel times for everyone

The new express bus lines are inevitably incorporated into a differentiated system of transport times. It has been agreed that the buses in the northwestern traffic area (NWL) run from Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is also a promotion on Sundays as required. In the areas of GO.Rheinland and VRR, these times vary a little in order to be able to react even more flexibly to the needs of passengers.

Timetables, stops and exact timings will be worked out in the coming months, meaning preparations are in full swing. This large project represents a meaningful enrichment for mobility in the region and ensures that rural areas can also experience excellent accessibility. A new bus landscape is being created here in the Bergisches Land that offers passengers everything their hearts desire.
