New record for city cycling: Radevormwald cycles over 80,000 km!
Things have been going really well in Radevormwald in the last few weeks: the people of Bergstadt have covered an impressive 80,242 kilometers at this year's event City cycling set a new record. This represents an increase of 3,369 kilometers compared to last year, which is pleasing to both the cycling community and the environment.
This year the campaign took place from June 9th to 29th and proved to be a real hit. Mayor Johannes Mans emphasizes the importance of bicycle mobility, especially in rural regions, and wishes all participants a good trip. The event will take place from Climate Alliance organized that promotes the fun of cycling and actively contributes to climate protection.
Record-breaking performances
The best teams have shown remarkable performances. The Radsport Nagel team is leading with 14,313 kilometers, followed by the Bistrorante cycling team with 11,669 kilometers and the “Ausgleich-unverpackt” store, which has covered 10,018 kilometers. What is particularly noteworthy is that 216 active cyclists took part in 18 teams, which is an increase on the 196 cyclists and 16 teams from the previous year.
A total of 3,040 cyclists took part in 234 teams in the Oberbergisches Kreis, who cycled 850,668 kilometers together and thus saved 140 tons of CO2. These figures clearly demonstrate that the initiative not only promotes the health of the participants, but also makes a valuable contribution to reducing environmental pollution.
Shared commitment
What is important about the campaign: The participants come from a wide variety of areas - from companies to aid organizations to schools and clubs. This clearly shows how important sustainable mobility is for the entire community. Across the Oberbergisches Kreis, 13 towns and communities took part in the campaign and in Radevormwald itself the largest group was formed by the “ BürgerBus ” team with 25 active cyclists.
As is often the case when you do something for the environment, it's not just health that comes into play. Cycling is environmentally friendly, saves money and improves air quality. According to that Federal Environment Agency Up to 30% of car journeys in metropolitan areas could be shifted to cycling. This would not only be a win for the environment, but also for urban planning, as cycle paths require much less space than streets for cars.
The next steps to promote cycling are clear: investments in cycling infrastructure, modern parking facilities and positive communication about the benefits of cycling can help get even more people on bikes.
With City Cycling 2025, the people of Bergstadt have not only set a new record, but have also shown that shared commitment really pays off. So make a note of next June – maybe you’ll be there next time too!
