Attention art lovers: Dagmar Gärtner opens new exhibition!

The exhibition “Drawing, Color, Figure” will soon open in Oberhausen, focusing on the work of local artist Dagmar Gärtner. Visitors can expect an exciting insight into over two decades of her work, with around half of the works on display being created in the last two years. The KiR gallery, located at Elsässer Str. 21, will be open to art lovers from August 24, 2025.

Dagmar Gärtner has made a name for herself since studying graphic design at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, which she completed in 1981. Her freelance work began soon afterwards, but since 1995 she has devoted herself entirely to artistic creation. She always dealt with her central theme of “the figure in space”. The artist uses a sketchiness and stylization that gives her works a very unique expression. The technique of drawing with a paint roller and the use of acrylic paints on canvas or chipboard create structured surfaces that give the viewer space for individual associations.

Art and its development

The figures in Gärtner's works are often a mixture of stillness and movement, highly abstracted and sometimes almost naturalistic. Her stylistic devices include color shades and graphic elements that give the image additional depth. These variations are an expression of her engagement with the human body as a carrier of meaning. A particular focus is currently on deceleration and a clear reduction in design, which is evident in her latest series.

Added to this is her voluntary work in the Kunstinitiative Ruhr e.V., which shows how closely she is connected to the local art scene. Not to be forgotten is her contribution to the design of part of the Hans-Sachs-Haus subway station in Gelsenkirchen in 1984, where she and her father immortalized a fossil - an ammonite - which underlines her connection to art and the surrounding area.

Insights into the event

The opening of the exhibition will take place on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 5 p.m. Nicole Tenge, the first chairwoman of the Kunstinitiative Ruhr e.V., will welcome the guests, while Hajo Gärtner will introduce the works. The exhibition runs until October 5, 2025 and will be accessible on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sundays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Particularly exciting for anyone interested in art and culture: Dagmar Gärtner has already won many fans with her work in cities such as Gelsenkirchen, Recklinghausen and Düsseldorf, and it remains to be seen how the people of Oberhausen will react to these impressive developments. In any case, it is clear that the coming weeks will be a highlight for art lovers.
