Students design a colorful bus for Oberhausen: A masterpiece of sustainability!
A lot is happening in the area of creative design in Oberhausen, especially when it comes to sustainability. STOAG, the local transport company, is organizing an art competition for pupils from the 7th grade onwards for the third time. Under the motto “More color in everyday life”, the young talents are supposed to create designs for a public bus that will be on the road in the city for at least a year. The theme of the competition revolves around important sustainability goals such as “affordable and clean energy”, “sustainable cities & communities” and “climate protection measures”. The focus is on allowing participants to submit both digital and hand-drawn designs.
A jury consisting of STOAG employees and graphic specialists carefully evaluated the submitted designs, and the team from the art group at Theodor-Heuss-Realschule achieved the highest number of points. Nine talented children, led by art teacher Laura Skrzypczak, teamed up to bring the motif to life. The creative minds Vanessa Buschmann, Fijona Dula and Jennah Özmert particularly stand out. Their design shows the city as a living space - with symbols of clean energy and sustainable mobility, including wind turbines, flowers from an exhaust pipe and plants made from light bulbs. Colorful butterflies, birds and the sun complete the picture.
Sustainability in sight
Parisa Rostami, head of the department for corporate strategy and committee management, also emphasizes the importance of sustainability. According to her, it is crucial that the younger generation is also included in the discussion about sustainable design. These initiatives reflect the growing awareness in society that sustainable design plays a key role in the future of the environment. Products that are both environmentally friendly and visually appealing are increasingly gaining acceptance and appreciation among consumers, promoting awareness of eco-friendly design.
An exciting comparison is the PepsiCo campaign “Sustainability is an Art,” which celebrates creative thinking and innovative approaches to sustainability. This initiative, which includes 100 creative posters on the topic of sustainability, impressively demonstrated how complex the topic can be. Here, too, it becomes clear that a harmonious combination of aesthetics, functionality and ecological aspects are important foundations for progress in sustainable design. Design can not only make us think, but also move us to act - a philosophy that students and companies alike should pursue.
Creativity meets responsibility
In sustainable design, values are at the forefront, and this is not only evident in Oberhausen. The creative atmosphere and the students' appealing designs prove that sustainability is not just a buzzword. They can be proud of their work, which not only beautifies public spaces but also makes a positive contribution to the environment.
Let's hope that the bus with the winning design not only enriches the streets of Oberhausen, but also sets an example for a more sustainable future. Developments in the field of sustainable design are promising - and it will be exciting to see how such competitions continue to flourish.
