The traffic situation in the Ruhr area is causing some challenges next weekend. From Friday, June 20, 2025, the A2 between the Herten junction and the Recklinghausen junction is completely closed in both directions. This measure begins at 9 p.m. and ends on Sunday, June 22nd at 9 a.m. The reason for the closure is necessary reinforcement work on the bridge over Münsterstrasse, which requires the installation of new supports. It is not permitted to drive vehicles across the construction site during work.
The lockdown will also impact the A42 have. This has already been closed between Duisburg-Beeckerwerth and Duisburg-Baerl. In addition, the A42 between Bottrop and Essen will be completely closed until June 16th, which further complicates the traffic situation. Drivers, commuters, holidaymakers and logistics companies are particularly affected by these measures and should expect increased traffic volumes in the diversion regions.
