X-ray run: tradition meets challenge – be there!
The Remscheider Röntgenlauf is once again bringing a sporting highlight to the region this year. The 23rd edition of this popular running event will take place on October 26, 2025. The X-ray run has been a fixture in runners' calendars for 25 years now, and after two cancellations due to corona, everyone involved is particularly looking forward to returning to their usual form. From 8:30 a.m., participants will be ready to take on the various distances, with the half marathon recording the largest number of participants with around 1,500 runners.
The route of the X-ray run is not only challenging, but also scenic. The runners pass old Bergisch half-timbered houses, cross the highest railway bridge in Germany and reach the picturesque Burg Castle and the oldest drinking water dam in Germany. There is a height difference of 850 meters to overcome. The most demanding distance, the ultramarathon, stretches over 63.3 kilometers and puts all participants to the test. The fastest runner to complete the route in 2019 needed an impressive four hours and 18 minutes.
Variety of distances and registration
The X-ray run has a total of twelve different distances. In addition to the half marathon, there are also shorter routes aimed at younger runners. For Bambinis born between 2018 and 2022, the event begins at 10 a.m. with a 400-meter run. Young people aged 8 to 15 can also take part in cross-country running with distances between 800 and 2,450 meters. Registration is possible up to one hour before the respective start, with the last start being the 5 km landscape run.
The registration period for the X-ray run closed at midnight on October 19th. Late registrations are only possible on site and subject to an additional fee. Changes to other routes are no longer possible after this deadline. There is news especially for fans of unusual souvenirs: On the event weekend, new merchandising items will be offered at the X-ray stand at the marathon fair.
Honors and artistic accents
A special honor goes to Bernd Fiedler, who received the Federal Cross of Merit for his 50 years of volunteer work, especially as the founding father of the Röntgenlauf. This award was presented at a ceremony on August 5th. In addition, the Röntgenlauf hut in the finish area in Hackenberg has received a new graffiti artwork by Eric Ventker, which gives the event an additional artistic touch.
The event has so far received almost 1,000 registrations, but the expected number of participants is between 3,000 and 3,500 runners. If you would like to be inspired, you can tune in to the corresponding report on the local time Bergisches Land on WDR television on October 27th at 7:30 p.m. Further information is also available on the X-ray run website.
WDR reports that the event is a major attraction for the region and the anticipation among the participants is growing. The X-ray run remains not only a sporting but also a cultural event that inspires everyone.
