New Unna/Soest district association: BSW focuses on peace and justice
On August 25, 2025, a new district association of the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht - Reason and Justice (BSW) was founded in Werl for the Unna and Soest regions. At this event, numerous members and interested parties gathered to celebrate the creation of this new political voice. The state and deputy federal chairman, Amid Rabieh, gave a rousing speech and emphasized the role of the BSW as a peace party that actively advocates for social justice and effective municipalities Lokalkompass reports.
The newly elected board shows that the initiative has a solid foundation. The following people were elected to their posts:
- Vorsitzende: Ali Kaya (Werl), Dr. Gerrit Heil (Bönen)
- Stellvertretende Vorsitzende: Heidrun Lindken (Soest), Ute Giesen (Lünen)
- Schatzmeister: Torsten Kasubke (Lünen)
- Beisitzer: Benjamin Blum (Lünen), Musa Karimov (Lippstadt), Regina Gerte-Müller (Soest), Susanne Matuschkat (Schwerte)
A strong voice for the region
The goal of the BSW is to establish a strong voice for peace, social justice and local self-determination in the Unna/Soest region. The two chairmen, Kaya and Heil, expressed their enthusiasm about the great response and the opportunity to become a real political alternative for the local people. They have set themselves the goal of making politics close to the citizens and thus maintaining direct contact with the needs of the population, as can be found in the report by Rundblick Unna.
In recent times, the peace movement in Germany has repeatedly polarized and has often been a hotly debated topic. The term itself illustrates both the goals and the complexity of the political contexts associated with it. Since the 1980s, the movement has developed under different currents and challenges, with peace demonstrations such as the legendary one in Bonn in 1981 marking outstanding milestones. These demonstrations are seen as important for discussing current issues and mobilizing the population, as outlined in the analysis by the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
Anyone who supports the BSW not only shows an interest in social justice, but also in effective politics that is implemented for the citizens. The founding of the new district association could therefore be seen as a breath of fresh air in the region's political landscape, with the aim of sensitizing and mobilizing more people on the issues of peace and social justice.
