Melis Taymaz shines with 14 goals: HSV Solingen wins at OTV!
HSV Solingen-Gräfrath II has established contact with the top group of the table with an impressive 28:23 victory against Ohligser TV. The match, which took place in front of 200 enthusiastic spectators today, was exciting from the start and offered handball at a high level. Particularly noteworthy is the performance of Melis Taymaz, who managed to score a remarkable 14 goals and thus made a significant contribution to the success of the Graber women. Coach Andreas Spitzer attributed the victory to three crucial factors: fitness, a quick game and a strong defense that targeted the opponent.
After the HSV women already led 21:14 in the 44th minute, it was a hard fight to keep the clear lead to the end. The OTV, on the other hand, had difficulties to eradicate its own mistakes, which resulted in numerous slight ball losses. OTV trainer Lars Krysiak recognized Taymaz 'outstanding performance and found that the individual mistakes of his team were decisive. Johanna Knaak, with 7 goals, and Emma Späth, however, were able to set some bright spots, while the score was distributed at OTV as follows: Nippes (5), Tefork (4), E. Kramer (3) and others.
Next challenges
The HSV Solingen-Gräfrath II is now well positioned for the upcoming duel against the league leader Wermelskirchener TV, which was also able to show with a strong performance and won 30:29 against the WMTV on the last match day. In the meantime, the WTV led 29:26 in the 58th minute before the WMTV made its deficiency. The tension in the league is therefore noticeable and the HSV has the opportunity to establish itself with another victory among the top teams.
In the table, the OTV and the Wald-Merscheider TV show the last places and urgently need to collect points, since the OTV only plays on November 9th. Solingen-Gräfrath has already played some interesting games this season, such as the 34:32 victory against SG Kirchhof on August 30, followed by an impressive 32:25 victory against Bayer Leverkusen on September 7th. These services show that the team has a good hand in the current season and is definitely a challenger.
Handball in focus
Handball is not only exciting in Solingen, but is one of the most popular sports in Germany after football. With over 765,000 members in the German Handball Association (DHB) and around 1.5 million spectators per season in the German Handball Bundesliga (HBL), the enthusiasm for the sport and the league is evident. It's no wonder that the HBL is one of the strongest leagues in Europe and regularly attracts large crowds.
Overall, it can be said that handball sport in Germany is swimming on a wave of success-not only through the achievements of national teams such as the Danish national team, which won the 2025 world championship title, but also through interesting games in the league and good youth work in clubs such as HSV Solingen-Gräfrath II.
For all handball fans, it is to be hoped that the team will continue with the same energy and dynamics in order to be able to survive against the strongest opponents. The enthusiasm for sports is increasing, and the next game on Sunday against the Wermelskirchen TV is eagerly awaited.
