Fire brigade operation in Schwalmtal: Fire extinguished in ground floor apartment!
This Sunday, June 29, 2025, the Schwalmtal fire department was alerted to a fire in an apartment building on Dülkener Straße. When the first emergency services arrived, there was clear smoke coming from the ground floor apartment. With presence of mind and the first invaluable use of respiratory protection, the firefighters immediately entered the affected apartment to fight the fire and extinguished the source of the fire in the kitchen with a C-pipe.
In addition, a second squad was safely available outside to provide support if necessary. Thanks to the quick intervention, the fire was successfully prevented from spreading to other parts of the building. Fortunately, the residents had already left the building independently and safely before the fire department arrived. The emergency services quickly provided medical care for those present, but fortunately they were uninjured. After a brief inspection, the people affected by the fire remained at the scene.
Follow-up work and investigations
After the initial extinguishing measures, the emergency services continued their work by checking the area for possible embers with a thermal imaging camera. To ensure that there was no further risk of fire, extensive extinguishing work was carried out and the fire material was removed from the apartment. Finally, the firefighters carried out ventilation measures to help reduce the smell of smoke.
The Viersen district police authority has already started an investigation into the cause of the fire to determine what led to this incident. Compared to another fire in March of this year in another apartment building, in which a clothes dryer in the basement was identified as the cause, the exact cause of the fire is still unclear today. At that time, the Amern fire brigade and the Waldniel turntable ladder were deployed to provide support as there was also heavy smoke development in the building. The fire department was able to intervene quickly and successfully and secure the fire site.
In general, fires often occur unexpectedly, and according to the IFS Technical devices such as tumble dryers are often the cause of such incidents. It is therefore always advisable to regularly check fire protection measures and technical systems in order to minimize the risk of a fire starting.
As the past incidents in Schwalmtal show, the fire department's quick response is of the utmost importance. In the case of the current fire, the fire brigade once again demonstrated a good knack for preventing anything worse from happening and ensuring the safety of the population.
