In the current electronic media analysis (EMA) from July 9th. has once again shown that Radio MK remains the undisputed number 1 in the Märkisches Kreis. According to Radioszene, 114,000 people aged 14 and over tune in to Radio MK's program every day. With a listenership of 33 percent “listeners yesterday,” the station is well ahead of its competitors 1Live (23.4 percent) and WDR2 (19.4 percent). Editor-in-chief Holger Jahnke is pleased with this constant success, especially in the station's 35th year of existence.
The future of radio seems secure, as Radio MK plans to also broadcast via DAB+ at the end of this year. This further increases the technical future security and the acceptability of the program. DAB+ is now one of the most important distribution channels for radio and is continuously gaining in importance compared to previous FM usage.
DAB+: An emerging trend
As can be seen from the latest developments in audio usage in Germany, DAB+ has now overtaken online distribution. According to ARD, DAB+ now has over 20 million regular listeners - an increase of 1.6 percentage points year-on-year. The DAB+ stations reach over 10 million listeners every day, which corresponds to an increase of 1.5 percentage points. In addition, listeners spend 154 minutes per day with DAB+ and the number of DAB+ devices in households is constantly increasing.
There is particularly high growth for the 30 to 59 year old age group. Usage in this group is already at 32 percent. Over the last few years, around 1.9 million stationary DAB+ radios have been sold, which underlines the growing popularity of this format.
Regional DAB+ reception in Germany
In the region, over 300 radio programs are now available via DAB+, including many that broadcast exclusively digitally. According to Mebucom, the second national DAB+ program platform has an impressive reach of around 67 million people. Over 80 DAB+ programs are available in urban areas. Federal states such as Bavaria and Berlin/Brandenburg offer particularly diverse DAB+ packages, with programs from major broadcasters to local providers.
The digitalization of radio is progressing, and Radio MK and other stations are doing everything they can to position themselves as best as possible in this growing market. This makes it clear that DAB+ is not just a technology of the future, but is already having a significant impact on the radio landscape today.
