Second Speaking & Listening”: Warendorfer in dialogue about demography!
The “Speaking & Listening” initiative is entering its second round! The next event will take place in Warendorf on November 15, 2023, this time dealing with a topic that affects many: demographic change. Under the key question "Unheard of!? Invitations were sent to 500 randomly selected citizens from Warendorf. However, there is an open registration process for everyone who is not in the target group. The event, which can accommodate a maximum of 50 participants, takes place in the barrier-free FreiRaum. After a brief introduction, three rounds of questions are planned. A special feature of this format is that the participants only speak about themselves and no arguments are exchanged. The round is led by two experienced moderators from Mehr Democracy e.V., who already addressed the topic of loneliness in the first event.
A contribution to urban development
The dialogue format was developed by Mehr Democracy e.V. to promote social exchange. The results should not only be documented, but also actively incorporated into the city of Warendorf's strategy process. This commitment to strengthening democratic exchange in urban society shows how important it is to cultivate dialogue between different generations.
As part of this initiative, the Warendorf Adult Education Center offers party-politically and ideologically neutral events that contribute to political education. The educational offerings are intended to promote socio-political discourse and encourage voluntary commitment. This approach complements the VHS's existing offering and positions it even more strongly as a dialogue forum.
Steps towards perpetuation
The introductory phase is carried out in collaboration with Mehr Democracy e.V. and aims to train the VHS employees and the city administration in this method. This lays the foundation for future events where the VHS and city administration can work independently. In addition, further dialogues with their own topics are planned for the second half of 2025 and the first half of 2026.
As we can see, the NRW state funding enables new access and forms of provision that allow the adult education center to significantly expand its function as an education provider and to further promote citizen participation in Warendorf. Anyone interested in taking part should register quickly, as the registration deadline is October 26, 2023.
