European Mobility Week 2025: Actions for sustainable mobility in the Wesel district!

The tension is increasing in the Wesel district, because from September 16th to 22nd, 2025 European Mobility Week celebrated for the third time. Since its launch in 2002, the European Commission's annual campaign has aimed to promote sustainable mobility in cities and towns. In keeping with the times, numerous activities and events will take place during this week to increase awareness of environmentally friendly mobility behavior.

The program for the mobility week in the Wesel district promises a varied range of activities. Among other things, there will be a mobility day in Rheinberg. A hands-on exhibition and a picture book cinema will take place in Dinslaken, while the popular traffic light quiz awaits little visitors in Voerde. A rollator day in Moers-Utfort is intended to provide additional information on mobility. Particularly noteworthy is the “Keep your distance!” campaign, which is aimed at car drivers and aims to raise awareness of the need to maintain a respectful distance from cyclists.

A celebration for the little ones

September 20, 2025 falls during Mobility Week and is causing an additional stir: on this day, children under 15 are allowed to travel by bus and train for free throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. This special offer makes European Mobility Week interesting not only for adults, but especially for families. The initiative aims to include the youngest people in the mobility discourse and enable them to travel to school safely.

“EMW sets a school” – that is the motto of the Mobility Week in North Rhine-Westphalia 2025. The focus here is on child and youth mobility, which is particularly supported by School Minister Dorothee Feller and Transport Minister Oliver Krischer. Schools are cordially invited to actively participate in the mobility week and to develop creative projects that make the journey to school safer and more independent.

Offer and exchange

The European initiative not only offers on-site activities, but also creates opportunities for exchange and collaboration. The National Coordination Office European Mobility Week in the Federal Environment Agency provides materials and assistance to support municipalities in implementing measures. Companies and organizations are also invited to register and create their own events and campaigns.

Mobility Week is more than an event; it is a call for change. From repurposing parking spaces to school competitions to promote climate protection in transport, communities have numerous options available to develop and implement innovative ideas for sustainable mobility. Here You will also find the relevant information and materials that will help schools and municipalities to design their projects successfully.

With a variety of activities, a clear focus on sustainability and the opportunity for young and old to take part, the European Mobility Week 2025 is a strong signal for a more environmentally friendly future in the Wesel district. All information and the complete program can be found on the Wesel district website.
