Bus stop is being relocated: new fire department building in Ahrweiler starts!

The upcoming construction work in the Ahrweiler district of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler not only brings new perspectives for the fire department, but also requires logistical adjustments in local public transport. Work on relocating the bus stop in front of the outdoor pool will begin on Monday, July 7th. This is happening as part of the construction of the new fire station on the site of the former Ahrstadion, as Blick Aktuell reports.

The stop will be relocated around 50 meters to the south, directly at number 6. During the construction work, a stopping ban will also be set up on the opposite side of the street to ensure unhindered access for fire engines.

New fire station for Ahrweiler

The planning and construction of the new fire station is an important step for the safety of citizens in the west of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. The fire department was originally located at the Ahrtor Bridge, where the old fire department building was badly damaged on the night of the flood in July 2021 and had to be partially demolished. A replacement building at the old location turned out to be impossible, which is why the new location at the former Ahrstadion was chosen, as the city administration announced in a press release.

The new building not only creates a modern, but also a well-thought-out operational building. It will be the first fire station on the south side of the Ahr and will therefore be crucial for security of supply in the city. The plans call for a compact design that leaves space for a future sports field. The new building will also be designed to be sustainable, including a photovoltaic system on the flat roof and greenery on the facades, according to information from Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

Progress and prospects

The building application for the new fire station was submitted in January 2025 and the preliminary draft plans were presented to the main and finance committee. The final implementation planning and award processes are scheduled for 2025. The total construction time is estimated to be around 27 months, with an official laying of the foundation stone expected to take place in October 2025, as announced by AG BNAW.

The fire department will have space for up to 26 alarm parking spaces in the new building as well as additional parking spaces on the training area. With these measures, the city administration and the fire department are responding to the challenges that have arisen from the flood events of recent years. The measures to integrate flood protection into the building are therefore not only trend-setting, but also necessary for the safety of the city.

For the citizens of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, this not only means improved fire service provision, but also an adjustment to local public transport that goes hand in hand with the new circumstances.
