Wiesbach Voices: A choir that saves 36 children with music!

In a festive ceremony in the meeting room of the Alzey-Land municipal administration on September 2, 2025, the choir “Wiesbach Voices” from Nieder-Wiesen was honored as volunteer of the month for August. District Administrator Heiko Sippel praised the extraordinary commitment of the 13 singers, who are led by pianist and choir director Fritz Stock. The choir has been supporting a good cause for 15 years: all proceeds from their concerts go directly to Kindernothilfe, which translates into impressive sums.

The first charity concert took place in 2010 with the aim of raising 360 euros to ensure the survival of a child in a poor country for a year. As a result, the first concert even raised 720 euros, enough to support two children. The campaign has become increasingly successful in recent years, and in 2023 an impressive sum of 12,960 euros was raised.

A colorful commitment to children in need

The choir director Stock composed the song “One Child – One Choir” for the first concert, which has been part of the repertoire ever since. The choir's musical diversity ranges from Christmas concerts and spirituals to their own compositions and collaborations with rock bands. Mayor Steffen Unger suggested the choir's award, which underlines the high value of volunteer work in the community.

The next benefit concert is already planned for the future of the choir: On December 28, 2025, there will be singing again in support of Kindernothilfe in the Nieder-Wiesen church. The response to the last concerts shows how strong the local community is behind this committed ensemble.

The numbers speak for themselves

The money collected, which was also supported this year through a wide range of activities, is impressive. In total, the following amounts were collected in 2023:

  • Konzertkollekte: 1.121,16 Euro
  • Lotto-Stiftung: 500 Euro
  • Sparkasse Worms-Alzey-Ried: 100 Euro
  • Ev. Kirchengemeinde Nieder-Wiesen: 83,84 Euro
  • Einzelspenden: 130 Euro
  • Adventsfenstereröffnung bei Familie Lehmann: 1.305 Euro

In total, the choir collected an impressive 3,240 euros last year, which will be used to sponsor a child. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development adds three euros for every euro donated. Since its founding, the choir has collected over 30,000 euros for 36 children, who are thus given a better future.

In his speech, District Administrator Sippel emphasized how important volunteer work is for society. “Without people like the members of the Wiesbach Voices, our community would be a lot poorer,” said the district administrator. In order to give due consideration to their outstanding performance, the choir members received certificates, volunteer pins and a donation in recognition.
