Bad Kreuznach sets an example: Start Orange Days against violence against women!

Today, November 25, 2025, it's that time again: The International Day to End Violence Against Women is celebrated worldwide and signals the beginning of the so-called "Orange Days". This special period, which lasts until December 10, Human Rights Day, is a call to outlaw violence against women and to send a strong signal of solidarity. In Bad Kreuznach, the initiators hoisted a motto flag in front of the town hall on Tuesday morning to draw attention to this important issue. The campaign “Show the flag against violence against women” was organized by the Women Help Women Bad Kreuznach association and is just the start of numerous planned events. Antenna KH informed.

But what does that really mean? According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, physical and mental injuries to women are a widespread problem worldwide. In Europe, one in three women will be victims of physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. This form of violence is not only a serious social problem, but also a massive human rights violation and discrimination. If we look at the numbers, it quickly becomes clear that there is a need for action: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 35% of women are affected. In Germany alone, around 180,715 women experienced domestic violence in 2023, which corresponds to a significant increase of 5.6% compared to the previous year. There have also been 360 femicides, which is a terrible reality that many women have to face. The BPB reports that this violence often comes from partners or ex-partners.

Obvious actions

In Bad Kreuznach not only will a flag be raised, but also orange light, which will shine from the windows of the town hall from today onwards. In addition, the railings of the bridge houses should glow orange. Such actions are intended to raise awareness of these unbearable injustices and send a clear message: violence against women must not be tolerated. The idea behind “Orange Days” is simple but effective – to send a strong message that violence against women cannot be tolerated in silence.

But the issue goes beyond local actions. Loud daily news 85,000 women worldwide suffer femicide every year, which gives the UN member states a clear mandate to take action. In Germany in 2023 there were almost 940 reported cases in which women were victims of femicide. These alarming statistics provide stark evidence of how important it is that we support causes and struggles against all forms of violence.

A step in the right direction

There are efforts to better help victims of violence. Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that he would expand help for affected women. More places in women's shelters and extensive counseling services are essential steps to finally address the plight of many women. The upcoming legal changes, which provide for an improved aid law, are also receiving a positive response. These laws will not only help provide better financial support for women's shelters, but also bring much-needed attention to the concerns of the women's rights movement, which has increasingly faded into the background in recent years. daily news highlights that the UN is calling for better legislation and more funding for women's rights organizations worldwide.

In summary, it is up to us to raise awareness of these problems and to take an active position against violence against women. The “Orange Days” are the ideal time not only to talk, but also to act. Let's all join in and let the orange lights shine for a life without violence!
