Revolution in schools: uniform mail and secure online storage for teachers!

The digital age does not stop at schools in Rhineland-Palatinate. Education Minister Sven Teuber recently visited the Rheingrafenschule in Wörrstadt to present new digital offerings for teachers. The focus is on improving support in the digital workplace and creating clear structures that are essential for teachers. How Antenna KH reported, numerous teachers expressed the desire for more security and reliability in their working environment.

A central component of the new package is the introduction of a uniform email address for the approximately 44,000 teachers in Rhineland-Palatinate. The new address will be assigned in the format firstname.lastname@schulen.rlp.de and should be ready by the end of the 2025/26 school year. The aim is to simplify internal and external communication. At the same time, teachers receive a mailbox with a storage space of 1 GB, which is intended to make digital communication in everyday school life more efficient.

A secure online workplace

A further step towards a better digital infrastructure is the introduction of the online storage “Safe”. This provides a protected space for sensitive data such as grade lists or conference resolutions. With a storage space of 5 GB and two-factor authentication, data protection is not only maintained, but digital collaboration between colleagues is also possible. These innovations are intended to reduce the burden on teachers and leave them more time for their pedagogical tasks bildung.rlp.de highlights.

The RLP education portal becomes the central digital platform for teachers and enables access to essential applications for teaching and school administration. Access is via a one-time registration, which is intended to make future use easier.

Together for the digital future

The measures are part of a comprehensive plan that is based on the KMK strategy “Education in the Digital World”. bm.rlp.de reports on the active participation of school authorities, school management, teachers and students. In addition, regional competence centers and a digital competence center at the State Institute of Education play a crucial role in the implementation of this digital vision.

Rhineland-Palatinate is well on the way to establishing the digital workplace as a complete package for over 44,000 teachers. This not only offers the opportunity for modern teaching design, but also for all-encompassing participation of all actors in the education system. A step towards the future that sets the course for innovative learning and teaching.
