Hann-M.-Schleyer-Straße: Traffic closures announced from Monday!
In Cologne, major road work will be carried out on Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Straße from July 7, 2025. As the Rhine Palatinate Reportedly, tree felling work will be carried out this Monday, which will result in a one-sided closure of traffic as well as sidewalks and cycle paths. On the first day, the closure affects the area between the roundabout near the town hall and the forest road towards the police station.
A similar closure in the opposite direction is necessary for Tuesday, July 8th, so traffic towards the town hall will also be affected. Particularly important for passengers: The bus stop at the vocational school remains unoccupied on both days, which could pose a challenge for those transferring.
Detour and no stopping
In order to avoid the affected area, a diversion will be set up via the forest road. Please note that there is a ban on stopping on both sides of the diversion route, which could make the situation even more difficult for Cologne residents who are keen on parking.
This work is part of a broader initiative to improve urban mobility. The SZBZ explains that empty pipes for e-charging stations will be laid on Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Straße from March 17th. This work is expected to take two weeks and will be carried out in several construction phases. During the construction period, traffic will be able to pass through at any time, but at speeds below 30 km/h to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.
A positive sign for sustainable urban development
The current situation shows how important integrated urban development and mobility planning are. The research project Difu emphasizes that such measures should not only reduce environmental pollution, but also promote equal opportunities and the diversity of urban life. As part of the project, concrete solutions are to be developed and recommendations are made for municipalities and the economy in order to create a new urban culture.
With these steps, Cologne is not only helping to improve the cityscape, but is also setting an example for a more environmentally friendly future. In this sense, every felling of trees, every road cut and every diversion is a small but valuable contribution to the sustainable urbanity of our city.
