Creative holiday workshop: Building a mobile bar at the JUZ Kaiserslautern!
There will be an exciting workshop for young hobbyists at the Kaiserslautern Youth Center (JUZ) during the coming summer holidays. From July 7th to 17th, 2025, young people aged 12 to 16 are invited to put their creativity and craft skills to the test. The plan is to build a mobile bar made up of individually designed wooden modules. This creative challenge awaits the participants every day from 10 a.m. to around 4 p.m., who will work from Monday to Friday in the first week of the holiday and from Monday to Thursday in the second week.
The participants are introduced to various craft steps: from drawing and measuring to sawing, drilling and painting the bar. The goal? A walk-in sculpture that not only serves as a mobile meeting point, but is also intended to strengthen the sense of community within the JUZ. Registration for the workshop is free, but there are only 12 spots available. Anyone interested should send an email by Friday, July 4th juz-kl@web.de register. A confirmation email will be sent after registration closes, so be quick!
Wooden module construction: craftsmanship with heart
Another exciting project that could appeal to the creative side of young people is building a small table. Under the guidance of master carpenter Martin Papouschek, young people aged 12 and over can deepen their skills in working with wood. In a one-day workshop, participants learn everything about dimensioning, cutting, dowel milling and surface processing. What's special: Every teenager is allowed to bring an adult companion with them so that they can learn how to use Festool machines together. The workshop fee is €229 for teenagers and partners, plus material costs.
The choice of materials ranges from spruce to birch to American walnut, with all woods coming from sustainable forestry. So if you want to take the opportunity to develop your craft skills and create something of your own at the same time, you have the opportunity here. The necessary safety when working is of course also conveyed.
Fascination with technology and science
In addition to the creative workshops, there are also a variety of offers in other cities such as Zurich. Here, holiday courses combine design, technology and science. Young people can try out independent project work, experiment with digital tools such as laser cutters and 3D printers and gain insights into scientific careers and laboratories. This not only promotes creativity, but also imparts an understanding of technical connections.
Projects like these make it clear that interest in craft work and creative design is very popular among young people. The Kaiserslautern Youth Center and similar institutions offer valuable platforms where young people can not only give free rein to their ideas, but also learn important skills for their future.
