SVS young talent: Exciting games on the weekend – wins and defeats!
At the weekend there was a mixed picture in the youth team at SV Sandhausen (SVS). While the U19s suffered a 2-1 defeat against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the U17s were at least able to gain a point against SC Freiburg and the U16s celebrated a narrow home win against Karlsruher SC.
After falling behind early on, the U19s were defeated by a hand penalty. Lautern took the lead early on and shortly before half time the score fell 0-2. In the second half, Batu Akgöz was able to score the next goal, but even the majority after a yellow-red card for a Lauterer player did not lead to the desired equalizer. The team pushed, but there was no equalizer.
Point for the U17
The U17s were visibly more committed and ended 1-1 in their duel with SC Freiburg. Malik Sahin initially gave Sandhausen the lead with a goal after a fine individual effort from Diego Scheuss. Freiburg's equalizer came from a penalty in the 63rd minute. In the final phase, the teams largely neutralized each other and shared the points.
Home win for the U16s
There was good news from the U16 team, who triumphed in an exciting game against Karlsruher SC. Marco Bergamotto opened the scoring in the 20th minute from a corner. Benjamin Jusufovic was able to make it 2-0 just before half-time by converting a penalty. Even though KSC was able to temporarily reduce the lead to 2-1, Jusufovic restored the old gap in the 73rd minute. The 3:2 in the final phase still caused tension, but the SVS successfully maintained the lead over time.
Overview of the youth leagues
In the broader context, the reform of the junior national leagues, which was implemented in the current season, should be taken into account. In the new system, the U19 and U17 are now part of the DFB youth league, which will replace the A and B junior Bundesliga in the future. The reform aims to improve the development of talent and included a distribution into groups based on regional proximity, which should enable more intensive development of players. Bundesliga clubs and amateur clubs are now on an equal footing, which also ensures variety in the competition.
In the new structure, the best teams can even be promoted to League B, while the number of participating teams can vary per season. The aim is to promote creative approaches to play and to enable more playing time for talented people. This will definitely increase sporting competition, which is relevant for both the clubs and the players.
These developments shed an interesting light on youth work, also in comparison with FC Bayern Munich, whose junior teams dominate everyday league life. Their U19 and U17 teams are still without any points lost and have some of the best talents in the league with players like Magnus Dalpiaz and Lennart Karl.
The current season is therefore a groundbreaking one not only for the players in Sandhausen, but for the entire German youth football, which is already causing a few surprises.
