Piano campaign Play me!”: Musical freedom in Landau’s city center!

Music connects people, we have always known that. This idea is now being put into practice in Landau: the popular piano campaign “Play me!” starts on August 30th. into the third round. The city center is brought to life for eleven days with the piano event, during which pianos open to the public at four different locations invite people to spontaneously play. Mayor Dominik Geißler (CDU) gave the starting signal by playing a few bars on a piano and encouraging citizens to also get involved in music. He emphasized the unifying power of music and invited everyone to join in. [Rhine Palatinate]

The pianos are available at the following locations:

  • Vor Bücherknecht und 1a Nachhilfe, Theaterstraße 11 und 13
  • Aparte Kunst Galerie, Rathausplatz 8
  • Lederwaren Horn, Königstraße 15 bis 19
  • Vor der Markt Apotheke, Marktstraße 35

One initiative of many

The campaign is organized by the city's cultural office, the Südliche Weinstraße district music school and the Schlaile music house and thus offers a wide range of support. This year is the second time the campaign has been held and is intended to once again attract numerous musical talents. Anyone interested, regardless of ability, is welcome to play the pianos and share their musical moments on social media using the hashtag#playmylandauto share. [Boulevard Weinstrasse]

The participating stores act as “piano sponsors” and offer protection for the instruments at night and in bad weather. This means that the pianos remain a popular meeting place for music lovers and the curious, even in quieter hours.

Art and music as a social contribution

Musical activities like these are not only entertaining, but also make an important contribution to social participation. Music can build bridges, even when you exchange different opinions and perspectives. This is how the “Play me!” Action helps to promote exchange between citizens. Even in the broadest sense of social discussion, it shows that art and music can be used as platforms to address important topics and initiate conversations. [bpb]

The opening of the campaign is not only a call to play the pianos, but also an invitation to keep the instruments alive as part of the city's culture. Be inspired, pick up the keys and join in - because every note counts.
