Jozua Knol remembers: Deep Purple and the Ebertpark anniversary!
The Ebertpark in Ludwigshafen am Rhein will be an absolute highlight for the region in 2025 as it celebrates its 100th birthday. This will be duly celebrated with a festive program on May 17, 2025, before the celebrations are extended as part of the “100 Years – 100 Days” campaign. Jozua Knol, a now 66-year-old from Cologne, will certainly remember his first concert, which he experienced 50 years ago in Ebertpark. He was 15 years old at the time and was excited about the rock band Deep Purple, which took him into the world of music for the first time. These memories are special because Ian Paice, the legendary member of Deep Purple, played live in front of him.
The importance of Ebert Park is obvious. With an area of around 24 hectares, it is not only one of the largest green spaces in the city, but also a symbol of quality of life and community. Mayor Jutta Steinruck emphasizes how important the park is for the citizens. The Ebertpark has offered a place of peace, encounters and closeness to nature for a century.
A program full of diversity
As part of the anniversary, a colorful program will be offered that includes both cultural and sporting activities. These include an open boules game day, drawing and watercolor courses, and numerous offers in the concert shell that promote cultural life in the park. The celebrations not only invite you to celebrate, but also to rediscover and enjoy Ebertpark.
Ebertpark has an eventful history. It was created on originally swampy land and has undergone extensive renovation over the past 20 years. New paths, lighting and playgrounds ensure that the park is always worth a visit. Particularly noteworthy are the carefully designed perennial plantings, which provide a habitat for insects and birds.
The legacy of Friedrich Ebert
The park is named after Friedrich Ebert, who died 100 years ago. Other historical highlights include the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle, which opened in 1965 and is also celebrating its 60th anniversary. This hall is a central location for cultural events and is a listed building. There is also a bronze sculpture of an archer in the park, which is probably by Ernst Moritz Geyger.
The anniversary is celebrated in all its glory with numerous sponsors, including Bäcker Görtz, the Ebertpark e.V. association and the GAG. In the coming weeks, further information about the planned events will be available on the official websites of the city of Ludwigshafen and LUKOM.
The Ebertpark celebrations are a wonderful opportunity to look back into the past together and appreciate the green oasis in Ludwigshafen. The park has had a lot to offer over the years, and future events promise to further strengthen cultural diversity and a sense of community in the city.
