Bingen am Rhein, a town with around 27,000 inhabitants, is picturesquely located at the confluence of the Rhine and Nahe and is surrounded by four wine-growing regions: Rheinhessen, Nahe, Middle Rhine and Rheingau. For active nature lovers, there is a network of cycling and hiking trails that allow you to experience the beauty of the surrounding area up close. In addition, Bingen is part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Wine festivals in Bad Dürkheim
Bad Dürkheim, with around 20,000 residents, is famous for the largest wine festival in the world - the Dürkheimer Wurstmarkt. This takes place every second and third weekend in September and transforms the Brühlwiesen am Riesenfass into a festival full of rides, live music and delicious Palatinate wine. The best opportunity to enjoy the diversity of Palatinate wines is at one of the numerous wine festivals that take place in the region. The wine is traditionally served in 0.5 liter Dubbe glasses and reflects the joy of life of the adults at the festival. Weekly newspaper reporter highlights the most important festivals and the associated culture in the Palatinate.
In addition to the sausage market in Bad Dürkheim, there is also the castle and wine festival in the nearby town of Wachenheim. Here guests can enjoy wine and sausage around the church and the Wachtenburg with a wonderful view. The city wall festival in Freinsheim also revives the historical roots of the region, while delicious Palatinate specialties are presented at 17 stands.
