Rose Monday parade Mainz 2026: Shorter and more expensive than ever before!
In Mainz, the Rose Monday procession will be significantly shorter in the upcoming carnival campaign. Organized by the Mainz Carneval Association (MCV), the shortening is on the agenda in order to counteract rising costs and organizational challenges. While the procession lasted an impressive seven hours last year, the aim is to reduce the number of train numbers and focus more on the Mainz Gardens and the club's own customs. These measures are intended to address safety issues, particularly with regard to carriages often being left unlit after dark. The MCV emphasizes that the upcoming changes are necessary to ensure smooth operations and avoid dangerous situations resulting from the recent increased safety requirements. According to ffh.de, some clubs are already excluded from participation because their goals are not in line with preserving customs.
The event attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and the MCV is now forced to increase participation fees for clubs. In the future, participation will be associated with a cost contribution of 1,900 euros per car. This fee applies in particular to clubs that are not members of Mainzer Fastnacht eG. The plans for the train this season include at least eleven motif floats that will be decorated with caricatures, but the number of floats per club will also be reduced. These changes primarily affect smaller clubs and groups who may be excluded from the event due to the higher costs, which is likely to be a topic of conversation in the carnival community. This is also reported by n-tv.de.
Financing and conditions of participation
A particular focus is on overcoming the financial challenges, which the MCV addresses in a letter to its members. In the future, five of the eleven planned theme floats will be financed by Mainzer Fastnacht eG. The rest will continue to be borne by the MCV. In addition, walking groups who want to take part in the train must purchase a train badge for 6 euros per participant in order to legitimize their participation. The final allocation of the train number will only take place after receipt of payment, which creates additional planning uncertainties. The pressure on the clubs is growing, and at least ten of them have already received notification that their participation is no longer possible rheinhessen-news.de reported.
MCV President Hannsgeorg Schönig has emphasized the urgency of these measures in several statements and emphasized that strong understanding and solidarity among all those involved are necessary in order to make Carnival peaceful and joyful. The support of Garden and clubs is considered essential in order to preserve the traditional event for the future. The discussion about the new fees and the drastic changes will keep the Mainz carnival busy over the next few weeks.
