Wakol from Pirmasens: Innovative adhesives company on the rise!

In recent years, the Wakol company from Pirmasens has made a name for itself on the global market for adhesives and sealants. What many may not know: Wakol's roots lie in the shoe industry, where the company began its first steps. Wakol now employs over 200 people and is headquartered in Pirmasens, making the city an important location for the industry. The Rheinpfalz reports that Wakol will have invested around one million euros in a new bottling plant in 2024 to meet increasing demand. The company's growth is expected to continue.

A big step in the company's history is the takeover by ARDEX, a global market leader in high-quality construction chemicals. ARDEX takes a majority stake in Wakol, like the ARDEX website reports. This transaction is scheduled to be completed by September 2023 at the latest and will enable both companies to significantly expand their expertise in the area of floor systems. However, it remains emphasized that both companies continue to operate independently. Wakol's family shareholders hold substantial shares, which ensures stability.

Market development and innovation

The adhesives industry is constantly evolving and is under pressure to establish environmentally friendly joining processes. According to a market study by Ceresana, environmentally friendly adhesive products made from renewable raw materials or biodegradable materials have become increasingly important. Ceresana investigated that around 3 million tonnes of adhesives were consumed in Europe in 2023, with water-based adhesives already accounting for around 51 percent of the market. This development offers great opportunities for companies like Wakol, which specialize in high quality and customer proximity.

With the new partnership with ARDEX, Wakol could further expand its existing business areas, especially industrial adhesives and sealants, and benefit from ARDEX's international network. Wakol's main markets extend across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands as well as Poland and the USA.

In recent years, Wakol has developed several groundbreaking innovations that are particularly popular in the construction industry and furniture production. The strict regulations on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are driving the search for alternatives and allowing Wakol to further diversify its product range.

At a time when sustainability is becoming increasingly important, it is exciting to see how Wakol and ARDEX are working together to expand the technical capabilities of their products and continue to play a decisive role in shaping the adhesives market.
