Pirmasens-Land is planning a tourism service center: opportunities and risks!

Something is happening in the area of tourism in the municipality of Pirmasens-Land. The region will become part of the planned Tourist Service Center (TSC), which aims to bundle and better market the tourist offerings in Southwest Palatinate. The focus here is particularly on the Palatinate Forest brand, under which the region outside of Dahn is intended to shine in trade fair appearances and advertising materials. Klaus Weber, the mayor of Pirmasens-Land, is convinced that this measure will benefit the region. In an interview with Rhine Palatinate He explained the advantages that come with integration into the TSC: fewer individual advertising brochures and better visibility at trade fairs.

But how should all this be organized? The tasks that should be handed over to the TSC have already been discussed in the local council. Weber is committed to complete integration into Southwest Palatinate tourism. This also includes not having your own tourist information office, as well as being represented at numerous events organized by associations such as the Palatinate Forest Association and the Tourism Association. There could also be weekly consultation hours where landlords of holiday apartments can get advice. This is particularly important to ensure a basic supply of tourist services in the region.

Five municipalities and two cities on board

The TSC is not only supported by Pirmasens-Land, but also includes other municipalities such as Hauenstein, Zweibrücken-Land, Thaleischweiler-Wallhalben, Rodalben and Waldfischbach-Burgalben. The independent cities of Pirmasens and Zweibrücken are also involved. The targeted collaboration between these communities is intended to create a stronger perception in the supra-regional tourism context. Loud BTE Tourism It is necessary to pool financial and human resources efficiently and thus strengthen the region's tourism offering.

However, there are also critical voices. Steffen Schwarz, Mayor of Kröppen (SPD), expressed concerns about these integration plans. He draws attention to the fact that Pirmasens-Land cannot compete with the major attractions of the other TSC regions. This raises questions as to whether enough advertising can be done for local attractions such as the West Wall or the Maginot Line if tourism forces are pooled.

A step into the future

Nevertheless, there remains hope that the TSC's measures will take tourism in the Southwest Palatinate to the next level. “The TSC could create an optimal structure to fulfill tourism tasks in terms of content, organization and finances,” according to experts. It remains to be seen how the plans will develop in detail and whether Pirmasens-Land can benefit from this new form of cooperation. The advantages and disadvantages will certainly be discussed further at the next meeting of the association council.
