Worms introduces recurring road expansion contributions – citizens benefit!
From January 1, 2024, a new system for collecting road expansion contributions will be introduced in Worms. The city administration has decided to replace the previously one-off payments with a model of recurring road expansion contributions (WKB). This system aims to distribute the financial burden more evenly and in a more socially acceptable way. Those who benefit from the road project will now also be involved in the financing on a proportionate basis.
The aim of this reform is to abolish the high one-off contributions, which for many owners could amount to several thousand euros. Instead, the costs for road expansion measures are distributed across all properties in a billing area that are subject to contributions. Among other things, this will enable the city to continually improve the road infrastructure without citizens being overwhelmed by large one-off payments.
A clear advantage for citizens
The new statute, which was passed by the city council in December 2023, not only ensures fairer distribution, but also solidarity-based financing of road projects. The city's own contribution to the vehicle costs is at least 20 percent, which further eases the financial burden on citizens.
The administration of Worms is currently examining each property in terms of size, use and ownership. For the first two billing units, which include the areas of Pfiffligheim, Worms-West and Worms-Zentrum, over 20,000 contribution notices will be sent out from November 2025. An innovative online contribution calculator is also being developed to enable citizens to calculate their annual contributions in advance. For this purpose, a QR code has been created on flyers and the city website.
While the city develops new paths, Silke's action-packed knitting inspirations
While the city administration is making concrete progress with the new contribution system, the knitting community is also causing a stir. According to a recent list of Mrs Shank The right knitting tools are fundamental to a smooth knitting project. Particularly noteworthy are essential utensils such as the Ball Winder, which prevents the annoying tangling of yarn, and the Tape Measure, the indispensable companion for accurately measuring progress and gauge.
Here are a few more highlights from the knitting world:
- Yarn Swift: Ideal zum Winden von Garnhanks in handliche Bälle.
- Locking Stitch Markers: Perfekt, um gefallene Maschen während des Strickens zu sichern.
- Darning Needle Holder: Verhindert das Verlieren von Nadeln und erleichtert das Arbeiten.
Both the city of Worms with its new guidelines and our creative knitters show that it is important to prepare optimally with the right means - be it in an urban environment or with the art of knitting.
Overall, Worms will benefit from the change as citizens will be able to more easily participate in an improved space in the future. The new system could serve as a model for many other cities facing similar challenges.
