100 days of Merz government: criticism of lukewarm announcement prose!
In Cologne, after 100 days of the black-red federal government under Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), the political landscape presents an interesting, if problematic, picture. It is no coincidence that criticism comes from many different corners. SR.de reports allegations from the opposition, associations and even from within their own ranks that target Merz's communication style. Merz therefore uses “enormous announcement prose” that lacks the hoped-for turnaround after the break of the traffic light government.
In this context, political scientist Albrecht von Lucke criticizes the lack of involvement of the SPD and his own party members and emphasizes that the AfD is on the rise. This weakness of the SPD, whose poll numbers are only around 10 percent, makes the coalition extremely unstable. In Saarland there are slight positive signals from industry, but in general the economy remains in a deeper recession. The IHK predicts a decline in economic output of around 1 percent this year.
Critical decisions and their consequences
A particularly controversial decision is Merz's decision to restrict arms deliveries to Israel. This move not only caused turmoil in the political landscape, but also provoked opposition from his own party. The federal government can boast successes in foreign policy, such as supporting US President Donald Trump in NATO, but internal cohesion is in jeopardy. There are disputes over, among other things, the constitution of the judge's position, an issue that could further burden the coalition.
Another point that is being hotly debated in public is Merz's achievement of a majority with the AfD on an application that does not, however, result in any binding laws. n-tv.de addresses Merz's credibility and the possible impact of his breaking his word on his political career. In an upcoming vote, there could be another vote with AfD votes, which is apparently giving voters pause.
Surveys and the situation of the parties
The current political mood is tense. Loud Statista 63 percent of those surveyed signaled that Merz would not lose any influence despite his difficulties. This is strange, because he was the first candidate for chancellor in the Federal Republic to have to fight for his majority in the second round of voting. The CDU/CSU won 28.6 percent of the second votes in the elections, while the AfD became the largest opposition faction with 20.8 percent.
It will be important for the Union not only to boast about its successes in foreign policy, but also to take on challenges such as the weakness of the SPD and the rise of the AfD. Voters demand clarity about positions, and intra-party disputes can quickly reflect on the population as a whole. Voter trust is at stake and the question remains: how will the coalition respond to this pressure?
