Saarland at Gamescom 2025: Innovative games delight visitors!

Gamescom 2024 has once again impressively shown why it is considered the largest video game trade fair in the world. From August 21st to 25th, over 335,000 enthusiastic visitors flocked to the exhibition center in Cologne to experience the latest trends and developments in the gaming industry up close. This huge number of participants, who came from 120 different countries, testifies to the global appeal of the event. Digital access was also well received, with 310 million visits in 2024, a notable increase compared to the 10,000 digital visitors in 2020. Statista reports that the trade fair, with more than 230,000 square meters of space and over 1,400 exhibitors, was a true Eldorado for gamers and developers.

As part of this impressive trade fair, Saarland also presented its creative minds and innovative projects. The network of the games industry in Rhineland-Palatinate, Game up, and six talented development studios from Saarland were there to present their new games. At the stand were, among others, DigiTales Interactive with their titles “Lacuna” and the sequel “Between Horizons”, which deals with criminal cases in space.

Saarland developers in focus

The developers from Radical Fish Games were represented with their sequel “Alabaster Dawn”, which will seamlessly follow on from “CrossCode”. The story follows protagonist Juno as she strives to rebuild a fallen civilization. There is currently no release date.

Roof Cut Media presents an exciting puzzle game with “Mindlock: The Apartment”, while Pentapaw Studios delights its fans with “Yarn Guardians”, in which Rudy the cat protects his home from cheeky bunnies. Both games have been available as free demos on Steam since August 8, 2024.

Another highlight is the planned release of the game “The Clubies” from Cluby Games, in which players can navigate through a disco. Their ambitious plans call for release towards the end of 2025, complete with a level editor for custom club designs. Debuff Interactive also has an exciting project with “Club Defenders”, which is about protecting clubs from aliens hostile to music. Here too, the market launch is targeted for the end of 2025.

Last but not least, Forking Paths Gardening Interactive's The Great Sassanelli, set for release in the third quarter of 2025, is set to attract many players and deals with the challenge of managing a circus troupe during World War I.

A strong network for the future

Andreas Hanuja from Cluby Games reported on the positive response at the Saar stand, where there were often long queues in front of the play stations. Invigorating discussions also took place here between media representatives and politicians who pointed out the importance of the gaming industry as an attractive career field and growth engine. Elena Yorgova-Ramanauskas, State Secretary in the Saarland Ministry of Economic Affairs, emphasized the relevance of the gaming industry for the creative sector as a whole. For this reason, Hanuja advocates expanding the Saar stand for the next Gamescom 2025 - in order to accommodate the large number of interested parties.

The next Gamescom days are already being planned and will take place from August 20th to 24th, 2025. It will be exciting to see what new innovations and great games will be presented.
