Sensation at the swimming lake: missing swimmer returns healthy!

On June 28, 2025, a rescue operation occurred at the bathing lake in Neuhofen, Rhineland-Palatinate, which initially caused great excitement. Relatives of a young woman had noticed that she had disappeared from sight and feared the worst: a possible drowning. A larger rescue operation was then immediately called out, which also included a rescue helicopter as well as several fire engines and two ambulances with an emergency doctor. The DLRG emergency services were also on site and deployed divers and boatmen to help as quickly as possible.

To ensure the safety of bathers, they were asked to leave the water. The tension was high, but worries about the swimmer quickly gave way to relief when she returned safely to her relatives. As it turned out, the young woman had swum across the swimming lake and returned overland. Your health is, and most importantly, harmless.

Drowning accidents on the rise

DLRG President Ute Vogt recently expressed the hope that the increasing numbers would make people more aware of the dangers in the warm season. Parents of small children in particular should be made aware of the importance of constant supervision when bathing. The incident at the bathing lake in Neuhofen reminds us once again of the need to exercise caution.

Alarming incidents in German bathing lakes

A total of more than 70 emergency services were involved, including the fire department and DLRG divers. Such events are extremely stressful for everyone present and show how quickly a relaxing day at the beach can turn into a dangerous emergency. The DLRG crisis intervention team was on site and took care of the psychological support of the witnesses and relatives.

In the event of an emergency, the emergency services are always ready and will help wherever they can. It is to be hoped that such incidents will become less frequent in the future and that more people will pay attention to the dangers on the water.
