Fundraising campaign started for the family of the killed police officers in Völklingen

In a tragic incident in Völklingen, 34-year-old police officer Simon B. was shot while pursuing a robbery suspect. It is with a heavy heart that the police unions in Saarland report that for the family of the brave officer Fundraising campaign was started, which has already achieved remarkable success after a short time.

Simon B. leaves behind a wife and two small children. Together with his colleagues, he was pursuing a fugitive when his service weapon was confiscated, whereupon the perpetrator shot him several times. The distressing incident happened after a robbery at a gas station. Shortly afterwards, Simon fell victim to the fatal attack in a clinic, and the news of his violent death spread like wildfire - shock and speechlessness gripped the police family and the entire society.

Great support for the family

The fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe platform, which was launched with the consent of Simon's widow, raised over 170,000 euros in just two days. Real estate consultant Sebastian Klein initiated the campaign, which not only offers financial support, but also shows the community's great compassion. The police officer's widow said she was "very grateful" for the great efforts and support the family received during this difficult time.

Before the union fundraising campaign, an amount of almost 200,000 euros had already been collected privately for the wife. The private collection was stopped when the official campaign was launched. The BDK, DPolG and GdP unions emphasize in unison that every donation will help the family build a secure future. This shows that the community stands together in difficult times and has a good hand to offer support.

Political and social participation

In a further sign of compassion, a book of condolence will be laid out in Saarbrücken and will be opened on Monday. Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) will also be the first to register. In this dark time, the political and social reactions are overwhelming, with sympathy from figures such as Stephan Toscani, Jeanne Dillschneider and Alexander Dobrindt. Society shows that it stands behind the emergency services and shares their grief.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing: the 18-year-old who committed the crime is also injured in the hospital. The public prosecutor's office has already initiated an investigation into particularly aggravated robbery, murder and two counts of attempted murder, whereby the intent to conceal the murder factor comes into consideration. The events once again raise questions that also concern organizations that campaign against police violence, such as International League for Human Rights or Amnesty International, which deals with documentation and support for those affected.

In this difficult time, the people of Saarland are showing solidarity. Support Simon B.'s family and help so that the community can stand together. Every contribution counts!
