A series of burglaries shakes Dithmarschen: rooms must be made safer!
Worrying incidents have occurred in the last few days in the Dithmarschen district, a region that is not initially considered a hotspot for burglaries due to its rural structure. Several burglaries or attempted burglaries are making the rounds and the criminal police in Heide are already actively investigating NDR reported.
There have been various break-ins in the last few nights, which are causing great concern for residents. On Monday night, a residential building in Streitewurth was hit. The perpetrators stole musical instruments and cash, and they didn't even stop at parked vehicles - seats and on-board computers were also stolen. How NDR further reported, there was another incident in Brunsbüttel on Tuesday night in which an unknown person broke into a ground floor apartment, broke a window and stole a games console and several perfumes.
Special times unsettle citizens
It is no coincidence that the current holiday season is the focus of the investigation. This time has proven to be particularly vulnerable to break-ins as it gets dark earlier in the evening. An attempted break-in into a warehouse was also reported in Heide on Wednesday night. The perpetrators had to flee without loot when they were discovered by the police. Tools were stolen from vehicles in Buchholz, Burg and Sankt Michaelisdonn on the same night - a clear sign that there is an urgent need for action.
According to current statistics, there were around 77,800 burglaries in Germany in 2023, which means a dramatic increase of 181 percent compared to the previous year Emergency call experts confirm. Once again, the autumn and winter months are identified as being particularly risky for burglaries. A common misconception is that burglaries mainly happen at night; in fact, about a third are committed during the day between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Prevention measures are required
To protect yourself from break-ins, preventive measures are essential. Mechanical security such as burglary-resistant doors and windows as well as modern security technology are axes to success. Alarm systems and video surveillance systems can not only act as a deterrent, but can also secure evidence and identify the perpetrators. There has been a continuous decline in the number of burglaries in recent years, but the trend has been pointing upwards again since the end of the Corona measures. The police therefore recommend investing in the security of your own properties.
Those affected are well advised to keep their eyes open and, if in doubt, notify the police. Especially in these uncertain times, it's important to be strong together and walk the streets carefully.
For your own safety and the safety of your neighbors, it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the various options for burglary protection and to take action if necessary. With a good handle on security, many potential break-ins can potentially be nipped in the bud.
