Construction site chaos in Kiel: where roads are now closed!
A lot is happening in Kiel: The city is in the middle of a phase of intensive construction work. Despite the necessary measures, some construction projects result in significant restrictions and diversions for road users.
A major construction hotspot is the Eichenbergskamp, which will remain completely closed until June 27, 2025. Important repairs are being carried out here on two connecting pipes for rainwater. Hasseer Straße will also remain closed until June 27, 2025, while the street between house numbers 78 and 100 is being rebuilt and expanded. We can only hope that the residents are patient, because the construction sites can often lead to unexpected traffic jams, as KN Online reports.
Special construction sites at a glance
In Kiel-Wik, Flensburger Straße will be closed until June 30, 2025 in order to expand the bicycle route. The closure affects various sections, with the disruption varying depending on the parts of the road. Another point is the unilateral closure of Preetzer Straße in Kiel-Gaarden-Ost, which will last until June 30, 2025. A new branch of the day clinic of the Center for Integrative Psychiatry (ZIP) is being built here.
- Eichenbergskamp: Vollsperrung bis 27. Juni 2025 – Reparatur von Regenwasserleitungen.
- Hasseer Straße: Vollsperrung bis 27. Juni 2025 – Um- und Ausbau der Straße.
- Flensburger Straße: Vollsperrung bis 30. Juni 2025 – Ausbau der Velo-Route.
- Preetzer Straße: Einseitige Sperrung bis 30. Juni 2025 – Bau einer neuen Tagesklinik.
- Wörthstraße: Vollsperrung bis 4. Juli 2025 – Reparatur von Schmutzwasseranschlüssen.
- Eggerstedtstraße/Wall: Vollsperrung bis 31. Juli 2025 – Fassadenarbeiten.
- Adolfstraße: Vollsperrung bis 30. September 2025 – Austausch einer Mittelspannungsanlage.
- Alte Lübecker Chaussee: Reduzierte Brückenhöhe bis 30. September 2025 – Arbeiten an der Eisenbahnbrücke.
- Hasseer Straße (Hassee): Sanierung bis Ende November 2025 – Umfassende Arbeiten an Abwasserkanälen.
Particularly noteworthy is the work on the Alte Lübecker Chaussee, which poses additional challenges. Here the headroom is reduced to 3.60 meters, which can be a blessing in disguise for trucks and larger vehicles. A digital height control has been installed to identify vehicles that fall below the required height. When a traffic light is triggered, all oversized vehicles have to turn, which leads to further traffic disruption, as Kiel.de also notes.
Construction work and its effects
The bridge work between Gaarden-Süd/Kronsburg and Hamburger Chaussee also entails a temporary height restriction of 3.60 meters. Despite the traffic diversions, several accidents have already occurred, which shows how important it is to adhere to the new regulations. These measures are part of an overall concept that is expected to last until at least the end of 2025.
Although these construction sites face challenges, there is also an opportunity for a modernized and more sustainable transport infrastructure. To make Kiel safer and more pleasant for all road users, such measures are essential.
